Aurora alert - tonight. (26th Sept 2011)
Hi-latituders might see aurorae this evening (26th) as there's a geomagnetic storm in progress. There's the barest hint of possible green-ness to the north of here just now (or it could be cloud...
). Live updates from ... http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/

Well, there's a definite greenish glow, but it doesn't look like it's going to get more exciting than that, any time soon...

What latitude?

Great!
I saw this thread yesterday before going to bed, but I checked our local values and it looked like it was unlikely to see any auroras here, but I went outside to check anyway. There was nothing and it was getting more cloudy, so I went to bed. But glad you saw some
With a stand and longer exposure time you can get some pretty amazing photos.

These pics were on minute-long exposures on a tripod - there was very little up there, but we live in hope that the winter might bring a few more opportunities. We've had far better before here, on a couple of occasions. The first time it was clearly visible from the garden even with streetlights (I should look for the photos), and the second time Mrs TA got a spectacular display while I was away on business.borealis wrote:Great!I saw this thread yesterday before going to bed, but I checked our local values and it looked like it was unlikely to see any auroras here, but I went outside to check anyway. For some damn reason I keep thinking somebody has a migraine scheduled.
