Offenders in Ala. town can choose jail or church

The Associated Press

BAY MINETTE, Ala. -- Authorities say non-violent offenders in southern Alabama will have a new choice: Go to jail, or go to church every Sunday for a year.

WKRG-TV reports (http://bit.ly/qpxXJX) that Operation Restore Our Community begins next week.

The city judge in Bay Minette will let misdemeanor offenders choose to work off their sentences in jail and pay a fine; or go to church every Sunday for a year.

If offenders select church, they'll be allowed to pick the place of worship but must check in weekly with the pastor and police.

If the one-year church attendance program is completed, the offender's case will be dismissed.

Bay Minette Police Chief Mike Rowland says the program could change the lives of people heading down the wrong path. So far, 56 churches are participating.

Jail please. Probably less chance of surprise buttsecs. :?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Why would misdemeanor offenders be sent to jail ,,that's stupid and what happened to separation of church and state I don't think you would have a good chance of justice if you happened to be wearing a turban when you come before that Judge !

I bet you can't go to atheist UU church. Plus they have bad Lutheran coffee anyway, been there.

Good. I hope they go to church...and steal from the collection plate :hehe:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I would go to church, but raise my hand repeatedly during the sermon. "Yeah, I have a question. That bit you just said doesn't make sense to me...," or "Yeah, I gotta go to the bathroom," or "Yeah, can I have some more grape juice and those little crackers? Those crackers weren't very filling and I'm still hungry," or "Yeah, so when do we get to stone some homosexuals? I hate those faggots," or "Yeah, so where's this God fellow? I thought he was gonna be here or something," etc. :{D

Noooooooo. Talk about misapplied aversion therapy. Attending science courses should never be used as an alternative to punishment. That proposal reminds me of a teacher who made his recalcitrant students listen to Mozart during detention.
