Are you rich or poor?

It apparently is determined by your tax bracket in the US. If your income tax bracket is closer to 29% you are rich.
:console: is supposed to be on the poll line for the poor.

15% and 29%???

Over here it's 20% and 41% plus PRSI, and a stupid recession tax.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Yup. Stupidity. I'm rich, but I'm classified as the poorest of the poor because I have zero taxable income and therefore pay zero taxes. If I were willing to lie on the welfare forms like too many other people do (by, for example, failing to declare their crack-selling income) I'd certainly qualify for every welfare program out there.

It's complicated. I added all my taxes, not just federal. And in fact I pay 7% soc sec but my wife pays twice. We just barely get to the 20s.

But I must pick something, so since I vote with the poor, to grab money from fat cats to them, I feel poor.

Actually, those crack dealers don't seem to make that much.
You might find it interesting.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Interestingly, if you actually do the math (which socialists never bother to do) you'll find out that the vast majority of people pay income tax at the 15 percent rate, which is the same rate that "rich people" pay on their capital gains earnings.

It was deliberately set up that way so that capital gains earners ARE "paying their fair share" of taxes.

The additional "taxes" that you pay aren't really taxes, they are social welfare entitlement fees like FICA, Social Security and Medicare, which can't be counted as "paying your taxes" as it pertains to funding the operations of government. Those are payments into programs that you will, in all likelihood, get money back from when you retire.

Warren Buffet (and other investors who are wealthy) don't pay those social welfare fees on their investment income because their investment principle represents their retirement nest-egg and the presumption is that they won't be taking advantage of Social Security or Medicare because they a) haven't worked at a job that requires their contribution; and b) they have enough money of their own that they don't need it and therefore will not become dependent on entitlement spending in their old age.

FUCK how do you even add up all the tax...?

Tax freedom day was June 06 2011, mean I think, but I am not smart enough to know if that should make me rich or not. I feel like Tero, but with different grammar.
