A Dangerous Method

Interesting that a comment to a review was what really woke me up to this film. I expect we'll have to get it on DVD - if it comes to Finland at all, it will likely be playing at some obscure indie cinema as an afternoon special...
A Dangerous Method is an easy film to under-estimate because it’s Cronenberg in his restrained, chilly mode, which comes to him with just as much ease as his more violent strain but never gets quite the same critical affection. These movies — M Butterfly, A Dangerous Method, Spider (arguably), etc — have pleasures of their own, deep pleasures, and this movie gave me everything I was hoping to find. In fact, the trailer made it look more “commercial” and I appreciated that the film played against those expectations. In other words, this might not be the Cronenberg that everyone now loves to love, but it’s still a fascinating movie.

"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

Coincidentally, the subject of this film was also the subject of my main psychology thesis when I did my social work degree way back - not so much about the relationship between Freud as Jung and the common areas and differences in their theories..most of which actually in hindsight are total woo in reality of course..
