Going to see this tomorrow at Cornerhouse. 5 stars from Peter Bradshaw in the Grauniad.

I love me a bit of slow and icy cold war espionage.

Can't see it beating the classic 70s TV series with Sir Alec Guiness. I have it on DVD, as well as Smiley's People...

No spoilers - but if you have seen the TV series or read the book you will know who the mole is before you go in!

What can I say? 10 out of 10 unless you like action and loud bangs. Superb cast, superb acting, a plot more twisted than a bag of snakes, and so well drawn that it gets tighter and tighter and more and more tense even though nothing much happens!

Brilliant - and Oscars galore I would say!

How close was it to the book in plot and style?
Just noticed this Jim. It was very close - in fact it didn't change anything that I noticed. There were though omissions given it was a two hour film and the book was several hundred pages..and for that matter the TV drama had half a dozen hour long episodes or whatever it was.

Been to see it. Top thesping, great, grim 70s set design. Seedy atmosphere of decay and paranoia. 8/10.
