OK I was holding out hope for Florida but last night killed that. RIP Huntsman.

I suppose the only hope now is Obama wins so Huntsman has a better chance in 2016 (though saying that Huntsman's surely a fair contender for VP if Romney wins the nomination proper- can't see him sharing a ticket with Perry.) Or maybe Perry gets to run and wins and is so dismal in office there's a full primary to replace him with someone sane and also beautiful (HUNTSMAN)

Bachman is dying too, and in part to Palin not committing. If Palin enters, Bachman is back down to ~4% in national polls and is finished. While that hasn't happened yet, I hear that Bachman isn't getting money because people are saving it in case Palin enters. Bachman needs a firm No from Palin to stay in.

Herman Cain will probably stick around unless he endorses someone else. I don't think he spends much money on grass root campaigning so money isn't a real issue to him. Still polls around 3-4% which is enough to stay in the debates. I don't think he thinks he could win, but is more interested in getting his ideas out. He could win some delegates in some states, and in a close nomination race...........

Ron Paul has plenty of money and grass roots support to at least stay in the race for the long haul. He probably can't win, but stranger things have happened and it is a long way until the end. If Perry / Romney stay close, Paul might have enough delegates to be King maker.

Newt, I don't think he has a chance but he has been looking good those last debates. I think he is more interested in being well remembered then fighting for the presidency. He has played the elder statesman roll well.

Santorum I don't know much about, and I don't expect him to stick around.

Palin can't win and she knows it, even if she does have a lot of popularity. She just doesn't know what she wants to do in politics.
Will probably end up doing something that involves a lot of speeches and fundraising for the Republican party instead of elected office.

His big mistake was entering the wrong primary.

I hear rumors that some people are trying to convince Hillary to run against Obama.

I'd like to see that, and a serious cut (all the way to the bone) of the DHS and TSA. The domestic war on terror is nothing but McCarthyism born again.

A majority of Americans don’t believe President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan will help lower the unemployment rate, skepticism he must overcome as he presses Congress for action and positions himself for re- election.
The downbeat assessment of the American Jobs Act reflects a growing and broad sense of dissatisfaction with the president. Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy by 62 percent to 33 percent, a Bloomberg National Poll conducted Sept. 9-12 shows. The disapproval number represents a nine point increase from six months ago.

Well, you might want to look up Ron Paul.
He was fringe for decades, but suddenly his views have become somewhat popular. I actually think he has a chance of going all the way.

I was more than a little surprised to see almost all the candidates in the Republican debate in favor of bringing our troops home from Afghanistan now. It appears that the Democrats will be in the odd position of having to support the continued war in Afghanistan, while the Republicans shift to the party of peace.

I actually have. Other than him being pro-life (which he also thinks is a state issue, not federal) he's also a big proponent of individual firearms rights. I've had my eyeballs on him for a while. :)

CNN Poll: More Americans trust Obama on economy over Republicans in Congress

The survey released on Wednesday shows that although a lot of Americans are still unsure what’s in the president’s new jobs bill, they like most of the major proposals offered in the plan that was sent to Congress Monday.

“By a 43-35 percent margin, a plurality of Americans approve of the economic program Obama outlined in his speech to Congress last week, but more than one in five don’t have any view at all of the jobs bill,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

When President Obama’s bill is broken down, more Americans like most of the proposals in it – two-thirds like the idea of cutting the payroll tax for workers and the same number like greater spending on infrastructure projects. Three quarters approve of sending federal money to states to hire more teachers and first responders.

Fareed Zakaria has a nice little article on the clout of the Tea Party and other grassroots right-wing groups on the upcoming GOP primary:

Which fits my theory about the 2012 election cycle perfectly:

That would still leave room for Huntsman as the moderate candidate in that primary.
