Randy Roberts, my lead prof at Purdue, had every one of his books optioned by MGM. None of them ever made it to the big screen, but he got paid anyway, so he didn't care.

That was a nice deal, but he was an established author. Often what they'll do is just steal your idea tweak it just enough so that they can claim it as their own and give you nothing. Representation and association with local guilds are a fundamental requirement, especially if you're unproven and unknown. I learned that lesson a looong time ago.

It's cheaper to fight you in court than to pay for your work if the movie goes big money. They'll wear you down, that's what lawyers are for.

US media of all vairieties is risk averse and uninventive these days. Once they made good stuff. Even into the nineties some was good. In recent times it is hype and repetitive gimmicky special effects all rather stale and predictable. :smoke:

Their all copying the US at present. Once the reserve currency link is broken....I'm hoping for more creativity all round. Necessity being the mother of invention maybe the massive cash flows through Holywood have made it too easy to make movies by formula? :smoke:

The majority of all mass media everywhere is and always has been little more than prolefeed. There is always a few diamonds in that pile of shit, it doesn't matter what country, decade or century.

So the "US" modifier was redundant.

No, the vast amount of downright boring stuff is US made, it wasn't always so and you are not responsible for the lack of substance but that is how it is now. I can't say much about other countries but the stuff made here tends to still test the imagination at times.... :smoke:

I've watch the telly in dozens of countries. Nothing changes except the languages. I used to watch a show called "Ja Ja, Jo Jo, Je Je", and someone had to explain to me that it was supossed to be funny. I was going for the BDSM angle but got it slightly wrong.

It's only my perspective. I'm not really into TV/movies at all. I went through a large part of the eighties without TV and didn't miss a thing. Listened to music, read a good book but no TV. If I wasn't married it would be that way again. Paradise. :smoke:

:wtf:

Christian Nyby directed and Howard Hawks produced the original. That dude is low and slow. :fp:
We saw this today. If you don't go with your expectations too high it's kind of fun.

Very serious spoiler here:
Trigger Warning!!!1! :
The end of this movie is the beginning of the '80s version. A "prequel", if you will.
