Troll Hunter.

Post by Audley Strange » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:30 pm

So I'm just back from the flicks after seeing this. I'm a big fan of the faux cinema verité style though I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I was looking forward to it, because, to me at least, I think we've not quite yet grasped that ALL documentary is fiction despite the best attempts of directors to stay true to the subject.

Troll Hunter goes a long way in helping us grasp that. I'm not one for spoilers generally because I hate knowing anything about movies that I might want to see, but this one does exactly what it says on it tin. Aside from the breathtakingly dour scenery (which was worth the entrance fee to me anyway) what we have is a preposterous but thoroughly entertaining movie about a Norwegian bloke who hunts trolls for the government. Usually such movies imply more than they deliver but not this. The trolls are not shy and the encounters with them are pretty funny and grim at the same time. Since it's this forum I'll point out that there is a few laughs at the expense of Christians and Muslims (and I'm sure a few Jews out there might find the big noses and sloped brows of the trolls evidence of rampant anti-Semitism) but all in all it's just stupid but well made fun rich with gags and a talent which teeters on the edge of suspension of disbelief.

This gets 9 thumbs up from me, because it was much better that I expected and I was looking forward to it. I'd recommend it highly with the caveat that I have very odd tastes.

You, I think, may like it G. The CGI is pretty impressive in places especially towards the end. If you don't like it you get a free pass to call me a prick without retaliation.

Imma big boy, I take responsibility for my mistakes. If it was a mistake watching that movie, it's my fault. :hugs:

WOW! Now if only we can convince the rest of humanity of that, we might actually get somewhere. 15 Kudos Mr Zilla.

I missed it when it played in the theater here. :sigh:
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Already ordered from amazon. Coming in the mail any day now
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

This has been on my list since I heard about it nearly a year ago. Has it got a UK/Ireland release?

Trailer looks great!
