Palestinian Bid For Statehood Looking More Likely

Post by Schneibster » Sat Sep 10, 2011 7:45 am

Palestinian leaders are meeting in Cairo Monday to discuss their bid for statehood in the UN General Assembly. It's looking very likely they're going to go for it; a positive vote in the General Assembly is virtually assured, though they will not be able to actually join the GA due to a guaranteed veto from the US in the UN Security Council. They nevertheless will have sufficient recognition that they may be able to get access to the International Criminal Court, and bring charges against Israelis accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the recent inconclusive clash with Israel. On the other hand, the article fails to mention that the investigation that brought accusations against Israel also brought similar ones against Palestinians engaged in launching rockets into Israel, first for indiscriminate fire against civilians, and second for hiding weapons among civilians and using them as human shields, so this is I think less likely, and I think they could get a big surprise if they try.

This will be something to keep an eye on the rest of this month.

Here's CNN's blurb on it. There are better articles out there, probably, and I'll likely add some tomorrow.

And yet the Americans and Jews are staunchly against this since they want to keep stealing land.

Barack Obama, the US president, has laid out his vision for the Middle East and North Africa during a key speech in Washington.

On the issue of Palestine, Obama said: "The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognised borders are established for both states.

"The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.

"As for security, every state has the right to self-defence, and Israel must be able to defend itself – by itself – against any threat."

HA! Don't make me laugh, Ian. Obama hasn't done a single thing besides this smoke and mirrors. He only wants to please the Jews and has not done a single thing while they steal from the Arabs. Obama even vetoed UN resolutions condemning theft by Israel. Obama sells weapons of mass destruction to Israel for Christ sakes.

Ah, the "I know what he really meant" logic. Well done.

Oh, yes, Ian. You are right, I misinterpreted all those vetoes Obama made in the UN for Israel and the US selling billions of dollars of weapons of mass destruction to Israel. You have got to be obtuse if you believe what you believe.

Ahem, you said: "The Americans are staunchly against this since they want to keep stealing land." The President is on record advocating precisely the opposite. So while you've got your own paranoia about what you assume to be the case, the US has officially advocated a Palestinian state based on less land for Israel. Either you're ignorant of this, or else you conveniently forgot, or else you're just a liar.

And the US is also officially on record as having an embargo on Cuba and yet US presidents still go and buy Cuban cigars. American words are worthless, Ian. Need I bring up George Bush and his words? Actions speak louder than words and show your true intentions. The actions Americans have taken in Israel/Palestine and the UN has shown that Americans and Jews want absolutely no peace.

I'm not.

I really dislike people who tell me what my opinion is. I'm not particularly interested in what you think my opinion is when you haven't asked me. <---very polite manner of telling you to sod off because you were impolite.
