Gawd, the whole world has pretty much disowned Assange. Hell, the rest of Wikileaks has had it with him. And you think he's just "furthering democracy"? Go out and buy yourself a clue already. He's done nothing of the sort.

Wikileaks going on without Assange would be a good thing. In fact this already exists: it's called Openleaks. But as for Julian, he's done. And good riddance. The world (and democracy) is better off without his influence.

(Do I really wish to see harm come to him, btw? Of course not. I don't have the sort of misanthropic pathology that you're cursed with. Schadenfreude is something I reserve solely for Al Qaeda and the fans of whichever team my football team beats on Saturday.)

Oh, that is rich thinking you speak for the the whole world that America has screwed over time and again with war and propping up dictators who know how to bribe. With more American thinking in the world, Hitler would have had no need for the SS.

Have you? As per the State Dept. cables, there's a remarkably low number of whistles being blown...

Besides, I have no problem with Wikileaks. The concept itself if a very good one. The problem is Assange, as even his former associates have made plainly enough.

Umm... no...
What difference does it make? You apparently think we're debating Wikileaks. I have no problem with it.

Oh, wait: you think you're being clever since federal employees were asked not to look at the site I'd be in trouble by saying yes. Well, whoop-dee-doo, I've broken the law. Of course I've taken a look at it at home. Not very impressive, I must say.

You say you have no problem with Wikileaks, eh? Tell me what they have leaked that you approve of being leaked.

And you would have made a very obedient German citizen during WWII.

That would be more fitting for the American "contractors" in Iraq.

:blah:
FYI: The more Godwins one uses in a thread, the dumber one seems.

I approve of anything that could be construed as whistleblowing. That's what the site is supposed to be for.

Blanket releases of a quarter million diplomatic messages without concern for content, much less the safety of people mentioned in them, is not even close to whistleblowing. If a few whistles get blown, then great for those messages. But the collateral damage by simply making them all public is naive at best, and criminally reckless at worst. It's disgraceful.

So to hell with Julian Assange, and Long Live Openleaks.

As long as that dead animal is a horse with post mortem lacerations from a whip, maybe...

Assange is an agent whose mission is to stir up so much shit that the US and other governments will have a pretext for coming down hard on the next whistle-blower.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
