Re: Tolerate the Christian right ... WHY ?
In the same way that i take the 'beliefs' of Christian Fundamentalists (right wing Christians) do i take the 'beliefs' of Athiest Fundamentalists. No fundamentalism is balanced and thought out. Normally, i ignore it. But tonight I must have supped tooo much of that heady brew.

I'm so glad I'm not an Atheist ........... and would you like to define an Atheist fundamentalist ? 'Cos AFAIK that would be someone who respects the constitution and thinks that Churches should not get tax free status for the propagation of lies .wittywoman » wrote:In the same way that i take the 'beliefs' of Christian Fundamentalists (right wing Christians) do i take the 'beliefs' of Athiest Fundamentalists. My personal definition of fundamentalist: someone who adheres to his belief and is intolorant of the views of others. Normal actions include rabid pounding on tables and shaking of fists.Feck » wrote:I'm so glad I'm not an Atheist ........... and would you like to define an Atheist fundamentalist ? Maybe she thinks of some exceedingly strident atheists who never lose an occasion to violently, and often deliberately offensively, rail against the evils of all religion, superstition, and other forms of woo...
My friend Randy Ping from the defunct RDF comes to mind when that kind of atheist is evoked.

You do know that the official definition of a fundamentalist Atheist is anyone who actually says they don't believe in god ? Seth is the other sort of atheist You know the ones that actually are Christians but don't agree with the giving or the charity stuff .

just so.
Geoff (Ratz) and I argue, discuss and poke fun at each other all the time. He is an athiest, I am a Christian. He believes there is no god, i believe in a creator and personal God. Never yet have we fought, gone red in the face, pounded on tables, said nasty words to each other or, otherwise insulted each others views. What a person believes in is just that. A belief. No need to fight over it.

There IS an official definition? Who'd be official enough to have launched one anyway?Feck » wrote:You do know that the official definition of a fundamentalist Atheist is anyone who actually says they don't believe in god ? Yerp because you have a relationship ,based on respect and affection I think it's nice you are not called to explain your belief in pink unicorns ,tea pots Fairies , the magical properties of rainbows etc OR the fact that NOTHING Christ reputably said is about you you are not a Jew you do not have to buy into the one god Heresy Made up to try and make a nation of Jews ..... sorry but History , Archaeology and Literary analysis of the Babble has proved on so many levels that Everything you think you believe in isn't actually true . Try being good without god ,I suspect you actually have higher ethical values that any demonstrated in the babble anyway .wittywoman » wrote:Svartalf » wrote:Maybe she thinks of some exceedingly strident atheists who never lose an occasion to violently, and often deliberately offensively, rail against the evils of all religion, superstition, and other forms of woo...

There is of course no requirement for proof readers to stay on-topic, but I am surprised they call themselves proof-readers while persistently misspelling 'atheist'.

Unfortunately, we have had science now since, oh, say, Galileo or so.wittywoman » wrote:My personal definition of fundamentalist: someone who adheres to his belief and is intolorant of the views of others. And science says there's no super magic sky daddy, no matter what the stone age sheep herders wrote while they were high on whatever it was they took to have visions. No "god" is needed to account for either the existence of the universe (science now accounts for the creation of the universe ex nihilo), nor for our presence in it (the accounting necessitates the creation of many if not an infinite number of universes, only one of which need have the characteristics of ours for us to be here now). No "god" is needed for anything. And it's no longer a matter of conjecture; it's a matter of observed fact. Why do you continue to believe something that is long disproven?
And when you're done answering that one, tell me, please, why is your magic book about the super magic sky daddy by the stone age sheep herders on unknown psychoactive substances better than the magic book about the super magic sky daddy by the other stone age sheep herders on unknown psychoactive substances, or for that matter, the one about the super magic sky daddy by the stone age farmers who were suffering from insanity?

If science says then it must be so. magic sky daddy. Science accounts for everything. no longer a matter of conjecture ... long disproven.
i have no magic, no magic book, i have my personal experience, which is not repeatable under laboratory conditions. Sorry. What proof do you have that stone age farmers wehre suffering from insanity?
Keep your belief in science. After all, not so long ago a prominent scientist did say science no longer has any mystery to uncover. Oooops, that was before they discovered ...... rather a lot actually.
