I recall the RDF moderator (and sycophant) line that members were "privileged" to be allowed to post there.
GTFO with that arrogant shite. Forums are privileged to get whatever content people send their way, and sink or float based on what they allow. Keep in mind that shit floats ... which leads me to ... (australians will get the cultural reference)

I particularly like Richard's recent comment:devogue wrote:I'd like to see a phpbb forum with dedicated moderators. We are going to be redesigning the site this year and would like to know what features and layout changes you'd like to see.
Oh, wait a minute...
Let's take some of Richard's specific woes and see how they apply to a phpbb type forum.I am glad to see that the request for nested comment-trees is not universal. I hope we'll consider very carefully before going over exclusively to that system. It does have advantages, not least because commenters often Reply without saying to whom they are replying, which can be infuriating. They probably forget that, during the time they are replying, somebody else may have inserted a comment.
Nevertheless, the nested tree system can also be a nuisance, because it can be time-consuming if you are trying to home in on the latest comments. I wonder whether it is technically feasible to eat our cake and have it. As follows:
Retain the pointers necessary to construct the nesting tree if the user wants it. But also retain the date and time of submission. Then the user could have three options, chosen by clicking at the time of reading:
1. Oldest first
2. Newest first
3. Nested comment tree, with oldest first of course.
If that is technically too difficult, sorry I spoke.
People not realising that posts might have been added in the time they were typing?
Needing some help homing in on the most recent comments made in threads that you've commented in or are interested in?
No need for reverse chronology with that, then! But I have to say, we don't have nested comment trees, sorry. That's one thing that can't be delivered, there.
But yeah... technically too difficult... technically too difficult... And yeah, sorry you spoke, no doubt...

Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

Now there's a suggestion for his revamp.

Quite a collection you've got there.Exi5tentialist wrote:RD.net is on my list of banned forums, i.e. I've banned them from my portfolio of visited websites and I do not visit them, so I don't really give a monkeys what Richard Dawkins does with his childish website. What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Oh dear. A serial dummy spitter, it would seem.
Keep trying forums and "banning them". Soon, it will just be you, a computer, and one last fundy site. Enjoy...

Re: RD.net to be re-revamped!
Cunts ... I recall your response to those who derided those who initially left RDF, Jim ... and how you'd stood by the dissenters along with the rest of us as we moved on ... fuck em all ... And Im ready for you saying oh, but that was different ... well it isn't. If you compare the range of people and views and the audacity of many of us that existed at RDF ... and look at who moved on with that moralistic purge .... then fast forward through a range of associated member/circumstances to now, and here you are behaving like those stodgy fucknupples back then, and this forum has fallen into line with that, so you're all good ... ?
damn, must make a sentimental bloke proud.

Make light of that ... dismiss it even ... that's what is happening ... but it's not even the fucking issue ...
Did he do anything wrong? No.
He's been ushered out because his views and approach are not popular.
Yes, he left voluntarily ... as RobertS is so fond of noting, but dont any of YOU feel responsible.

Soooo - Exi5 was 'ushered/driven out', like so many others who ...who did what exactly?
I didn't see any ushering in this case. Just dislike and distaste.
You are sounding vaguely hysterical I have to say.

No ushering about it. NONE.
Given a few more hours, the thread was restored. He made a snap judgment based on one decision that one mod made and then carried that over to the whole place. Rationalia may or may not have issues to resolve but he brought his issues with him.
If you can and want to, then invite him back if you want and I'll carry on with him like he never left.
