So, I talked politics with real live Brits over vacation

Post by Tyrannical » Tue Aug 30, 2011 2:09 pm

I just got back from vacation in sunny Florida, and I met a few nice Brits hanging around the pool, because that is what they do :{D

I kept hearing an over whelming disgust with their police being unable to stop the rioters.
I told them it was because of the the initial weak police response, because once the first rioters know the police wont act against them, everyone else joins in and anarchy breaks out. Their eyes lit up when I told them you shoot rioters dead just like at the end of Zulu, and we broke into a chorus of "First rank, Fire!, Middle rank, Fire!, Rear rank, Fire!"

They are fascinated that we can own guns, and are legally allowed to shoot burglars breaking into our home. I may have made some of us Americans come across as a little too gun crazy :ask:
The Brits are scared, not only can't they own weapons but can be charged with assault for defending yourself in your own home. People want that changed.

They know the rioters were started by and were always primarily Afro-Caribbean (Blacks), so the media trying to fool people failed.

I told them not to tolerate the term vigilante. Law abiding citizens protecting their home and family are not vigilantes, they are citizens protecting their home and family. That remark there generally got cheers, and probably a few votes under different circumstances :{D

BNP has no future with Nick Griffin because ol' Nick has no charisma even though many people support a lot of the BNP policies. He had his "charisma surgically removed" if I recall the wording.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I think you will find our riots were very multiracial every oink loves a a new set of trainers regardless of colour.
Obviously the police werent prepared for it but then you can hardly be prepared for everything and its a learning process

Yeah people like that having guns would make me feel so much safer.

As for the BNP unless in the UK people here vote generally on economic issues left= Labour right = Conservative centre =floating with race and religion have little role.

BNP only policy is kick out the darkies which isnt really particuarly constructive
When only criminals carry guns the police know exactly who to shoot!

Well I don't know who the people you were talking too, but you obviously stumbled on a fellow traveller righties. Brits are not 'scared' as you put it, they are thoughtful and trying to think through and act to address the underlying issues as intelligently as our politicians will allow.. The rioters were not primarily black - there is shitloads of video footage anywhere on the web which shows that. The BNP don't stand a hope in hell, Nick Griffin or not. Most of us are grateful that guns are not commonplace or easy to get here.

The police were not prepared, mainly because nobody was. It came out of the blue and the most senior officers more or less did a double take. Once their orders were clear they acted on them.

This is a mature liberal democracy with some economic and social problems. No country is perfect or a utopia. It is however a very peaceful place on the whole. I have rarely witnessed violence anywhere.

The law about defending yourself in your own home is currently being altered.

It doesnt need to be, I'm not aware of anyone being charged for defending their house who went to jail and who wouldnt have faced similar punishment if they had done it in Texas!.

The only recent case I can think of was a farmer shooting someone running of in their garden, reloading and then finishing them of on the floor after boasting down the pub the night before that he was looking forward to killing a gypo. I suspect such a person would be in serious trouble if he did the same anywhere else.

Anything else is a case that the police will take you down to the station if a body is found in your house with stab wounds or a caved in skull regardles of circumstances while they investigate which is not the same as going to jail. Dead body = serious incident at least here anyway

No you did not meet with "real live Brits" you met with a number of arse holes who just happened to have the same racist bollocks that you believe in.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

John Maclean (Scottish socialist) speech from the Dock 1918.

Those weren't real Brits, they talked like that because they were were bad guys from a movie.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Besides, I avoid British people on holiday. Like I'd avoid an Ebola-addled pit bull. Actually, I avoid all other people too. People are stupid.

Of course they were, they were by the pool. They always hang out at the pool.
I also verified it by poking fun at the French :{D
One group I talked to lived two miles from the Sony warehouse that burned down, biggest one in Europe I'm told. Another group had the EDL out in their neighborhood keeping the rioters out.

There was the recent case of the cricket bat guy who was released after there was a 'public outcry' over the sentence he got.

Thieves wont rob an occupied house if they suspect the owner is armed. It's called a deterrent.
