Lower Manhattan, Staten Is., etc., evacuated. Luckily, we're 1 block away from the highest point on the island. Unluckily, we have a basement apartment, so I'm a little worried about water coming in.

Wish us luck!

Latest prediction for here pretty mild - maybe 3 inches of rain and 25-35 mph winds. Not really much more than one of the larger thunderstorms that happen most summers.

You're in Bucks Co right Matt? I'm here in Chester Co and I'm being told to expect 7" - 10" of rain and hurricane force winds. Odd, since you're not far from me.

Winds expected not to top 85 mph-- but storm surge might be significant. Apparently the storm is 600 miles wide.

So far all just a heavy, steady rain for the most part, from the looking-out-the-window perspective. I imagine there's some flooding going on in the region already in the few places that are notorious for flooding even in lesser storms; there are reports of some power outages in the southern part of the state, but not sure how widespread they are. The Indian River bridge that links the southern edge of DE to Ocean City, MD is closing at 4 PM and won't re-open until divers can go in after the storm passes and inspect the supports for damage.

I tried to tell my kids we were going to head to the beach tomorrow because it would be the perfect time for it - no crowds, no lines, free parking, and a nice breeze blowing in off the ocean. They seemed less than enthused about the idea.

Off and on rain so far now. No more wind than a typical day.

Some videos here of points south of me from earlier today. Yeah, there's a guy surfing.

(Whichever idiot built the local paper's video section picked a player that mostly doesn't seem to work in FF, so you might need an alternate browser to view them. Chrome worked for me.)

J swept out the outside drain (damn super gone for weekend!) and built a retaining wall in the hallway out of heavy-duty trash bags, chunk of baseboard, and some bricks. Hopefully that'll do it...
