The Lozzer Question

Fair enough, but consider this - you've got good enough results to get in to some very good universities. I think you are wasting your time resitting. You've got a precious year, and you should fill it with as much voluntary work as you can. There's no paid work about, so why not just get stuck in with some unpaid goodness for a year. I fucking guarantee you that your CV will shine above most others down the years with such experience because action speaks so much louder than qualifications.

Voluntary work, without a question. Getting slightly better qualifications (Well done on what you've got, Lozzer :td: ) won't be nearly as useful as getting some experience doing something. - both for employability and just generally for your own life experience.

I've no idea how this system works over there, so I'll vote for the choice that promises the greatest amount of backbreaking and humiliating work.

Work. You will not only have a nice looking CV but possibly make some pretty good contacts with people in a variety of fields.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Definietly a year of solid academic work and re-sitting his exams. Then he can go to Oxbridge, and the modern version of Brideshead Revisted will commence...

Volunteer work is actually rewarding and makes me feel good about myself.

I've also met some great people to party with afterwards. It got me laid one or twice too.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I did a bit of voluntary work in my late teens and enjoyed it a lot. If I didn't have to work, I'm sure I'd do some more.

Fuck voluntary work, go and earn cash for a year and since you were intending on doing voluntary work, either give the cash to me or better, put it in a bank account to soften the blow of the fees once you get to university.
