Misfits

Post by Pappa » Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:56 am

Anyone seen this?
http://www.e4.com/misfits/

I saw the trailers ages ago, but didn't see an episode until I watched one on the plane a week ago. It's about a bunch of Community Service kids who end up with "superpowers" and end up getting into all sorts of scrapes. I liked it a lot.

Towards the end of series 2, there's a guy who can manipulate dairy products. He calls his power lactokinesis.

It looked sucky. Like Heroes getting the Brit treatment.

They have nothing in common except for super-powers. Misfits is humorous and self-aware, it doesn't take itself nearly as serious as Heroes did, but still manages to keep you interested with great writing and characters. Most episodes are really self contained as well, which is pretty much exactly opposite than heroes and other similar shows. You really should give it a chance.

It looked to me like "Hollyoaks" with superpowers, which is one of the things that annoys the bollox about modern TV programming. They all seem so bloody saccharine and perfect, even the token "ugly" people come across as the result of really contrived casting. To quote an arsehole, they all seem like "phonies".

Well, I have no clue what hollyoaks is, but the kids seem pretty average to me except for one chick. It's true that tv and movies in general now do definitely have that element, but it doesn't seem particularly specific to this show or a reason not to watch it :dunno:

I watched it for a while but never really got into it. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

It just makes my skin crawl, and I can't bring myself to watch anything like that.

Truly, America is a barbarous and pitiable continent. Hollyoaks? 'Tis like "Neighbours", minus the production values and acting. You'll be telling me you don't have "Neighbours" next, at which point I fear Bob Geldof may need to get involved.
