I choose to continue eating meat. I may change my mind, and if I do it will be because I've made that leap, not because you will it by sheer manipulative dogma.

I wasn't directing that necessarily at you, Charlou - they were about my brother and his valuing of human embryos over adult mammals - about the sanctity of 'human' life - irrational anthropocentrism. And the arguments aren't 'manipulative'. They are, to the best of my knowledge, ethical and based on reason, and what I know or have reason to suspect causes suffering - unnecessary suffering.

I'd eat a human if pressed to, too. I'd eat my cats if I were starving. I'd go back to eating other mammals if I had to. But I don't have to, and I know that livestock are often treated in ways that I don't consider humane, that many animals will be slaughtered without being stunned (halal), and that often stunning is inadequate. Some of the treatment amounts to animal cruelty in my eyes.

You know all of this? Carry on then. I wouldn't want to manipulate you or anything…
