Re: Tottenham Riots
The police are having a massive internal cuts prog. so maybe they are organised well enough to stand back and let Cameron sort it out? like the student riots?

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Re: Tottenham Riots
Only catching up on all of this today so a little out of the loop.. But why not bring the army in? The kind of people (*dips brush in tar*) looting and setting fire to anything and everything are generally the kind who have no respect for 'fuckin' pigs' spoiling their fun but do respect 'our boys' fighting for our country.
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Re: Tottenham Riots
It makes me laugh when they are described as organised though. An organised mob would burn the police stations first

Well, having just read the BBC coverage, we won't bring the Army in, because "we just don't do that here", and we won't use water cannons because "we just don't do that here", plastic bullets would also give the wrong impression, and anyway, "we just don't do that here."
I suggest we invite all the looters and their friends round for a nice cup of tea. Should solve the problem.

Good point who is really the criminals here, the rioting thugs or the middle classes who will actually steal a lot moreFeck wrote:There will be a lot of insurance fraud this week .

Force worked for Syria in 1982.Psychoserenity wrote:I'm not convinced it's ever possible to restore public order with force.
More generally, I think it's possible to limit the damage. The first riot may not be preventable, but when you know it's going to happen on the second or third day, you ought to be able to prepare for it.
New problems may demand new solutions. I wonder if British culture can adjust.Thinking Aloud wrote:Well, having just read the BBC coverage, we won't bring the Army in, because "we just don't do that here", and we won't use water cannons because "we just don't do that here", plastic bullets would also give the wrong impression, and anyway, "we just don't do that here."

Only a thug, a thief or a vandal could see "opportunity" in a riot.Tyrannical wrote:Think of all the money you could save if the police started shooting. Not only would the riots end, but I bet most rioters are on some form of benefits.
Shame to miss an opportunity like this.
Just sayin'.

I'm sure telling them that this is simply not on is enough to cow them.Thinking Aloud wrote:Well, having just read the BBC coverage, we won't bring the Army in, because "we just don't do that here", and we won't use water cannons because "we just don't do that here", plastic bullets would also give the wrong impression, and anyway, "we just don't do that here."

Just heard an unconfirmed report (from a coworker) of looting in Hounslow.
I work in Hounslow.
Nothing on BBC about it yet.

Taxi driver told me there's no looting in Lincoln today. He don't know about tommorow. Shall have to check with a hairdresser for that?
