Real guts is facing a riot unarmed or armed and not firing. Any fool can shoot a a teenager with a petrol bomb. Not aware of any situation in recent British history where anyone other the police or the rioters got hurt (well the police may have beaten up a few people they mistook for rioters)

Evidently not the fools in the UK. People generally don't throw petrol bombs during riots in the US because they WILL get shot.

Evidently it escaped your notice that police have a right to life as well, and a right to go home uninjured and unburned at the end of their shift, and so they have a right to use deadly force in self-defense, and petrol bombs are absolutely justification for the use of deadly force.

Generally accepted that the chances of someone dying in full riot gear from a petrol bomb when surrounded by a lot of other policeman is pretty minimal, a policeman do get hurt but then they do get extra riot pay for this

You are correct that the comment was placed in the wrong post. But since you have removed the attack, it doesn't really matter which post it is in now. The attack was reported first though, and seen by several people before it was removed. And it is still under discussion.

Police wear full riot gear for a reason. And that reason is not to allow potential targets to lob petrol bombs at them.
I think the UK police missed a huge opportunity to legally kill several hundred rioters.

Do I get points for recanting? It was a heat-of-the-moment error based in the fact that I've been in riot gear facing armed rioters, and it's not at all fun, and I've been a firefighter too, and I've seen the results of arson on actual people. Not pretty.

And I never got "extra riot pay," and even if I had, it wouldn't have justified having to face rioters armed with gasoline bombs. That is actually correct, the best form of protection would be to shoot all rioters at a distance (like Seth says), however the police arent paid to maximise their own safety regardless of the cost (and you seriously think if the police started shooting at rioters they wouldnt shoot a few innocent bystanders) . Not aware of any British policeman that has ever been killed while on riot duty , there has been a policeman killed not in riot gear and caught on his own

No opinion involved, riot police are often injured but none have been killed in recent times. Even if a petrol bomb lands on your head your colleagues are going to put it out pronto.
