Good find, Bella - thanks for posting!

I'm aware that these photos are meant to make a point, but they obviously haven't done it very well if people envy her or find these photos acceptable.

I agree, in part, with Ani that we could be over-sensitive to the girl in the photos and impress our own sexual mind onto them/her and then be outraged. However, there is an attempt to make some of the shots alluring and we are concerned that children's 'innocence' is being eroded (padded bras and the like) for money these days.
Most of the photos are fine and ordinary, a couple are iffy.

This reminds me of a similar debate (and outrage) that stemmed from photos posted in an Australian Art magazine. My views on the vogue article, the artist and the model are pretty much the same as they were on that.

And I agree with Animavore's comments.

Bill Henson's work was reproduced by Art Monthly magazine in 2008. I have complimentary copies of that issue and a subsequent one in which one email I sent in a conversation with the editor in support of their article was published in their letters to the editor section.

It is interesting and true nowadays that you cannot imagine 'innocent' nude pictures of kids which used to be around in many a family photo album, or even nude kids on say the beach (which was very common until 15 or 20 years ago) because children appear no longer to be viewed as 'sexless' in some way. People did not give childhood nudity a thought on the whole until recently (I suppose there have always been pedos who have of course), but they inhabited a world of relative adult naivety about such things. The fact that this debate has been so heated points to a very changed attitude, and lots of adult confusion about sexuality and childhood and our relationship with them.

I think a photo of your kid in the bathtub is quite a different animal from a child tarted up like a grown woman and instructed in posing in seductive ways to be used in a public way. :dunno:

I agree - and think the OP pics are dubious to say the least. My point is that there are probably far fewer pictures of kids in the bath or on the beach on people's computers and in their photo albums because of a heightened awareness of the sensitivity of the issue. The people who really lose out are the kids and their parents.

Around here we are still pretty relaxed about non-sexual nudeness. We have our sauna, where families gather naked together and the kids get to see their siblings and parents "a naturelle" on a weekly basis. In the countryside (like at our summer cottage) it's also customary to swim naked from the sauna, without giving much regard to weather a neighbour might be looking or not (they know not to). Small children still commonly bathe naked at public beaches. Sadly enough. I do recognize this meme that tries to make all of this unnatural and dangerous, but for me it is a foreign influence that I don't welcome at all.

It is a 'meme' that is far more entrenched here in the UK I suspect. The paedophile scares in the media, the sledgehammer approach of the last government to child protection (read 'covering arses') all have played to people's paranoia and lack of confidence in many of their ordinary day to day dealings with children. Many adults simply go out of their way to avoid having to interact with them. That's their loss, but more importantly, the children's.

Would those pics attract true paedophiles? I would think that making the girl look older would be defeating the object for most paedophiles. (not that I know about those things, honest ! ).

Paedophilia discussion aside, I'm surprised that more responses in this thread haven't picked up on the fact that - whether they realise it's an expose or not - some readers of the magazine are seeing the girl's body as one that they would aspire to have. :what: That is a dangerous thought in an area of industry and media that already has a massive effect on women's self esteem.

Maybe that's because that fact hasn't been properly established here. I agree totally that this is rather sicco, if it's true in any larger circumstance.
