How would "God" stay sane?

Post by Gawdzilla Sama » Mon May 04, 2009 9:22 pm

(Note the forum, please.)

"God" has existed forever? Not billions of years, but FOREVER? If so, wouldn't even a god be bored out of his ever-loving mind by now?

Never mind the fact that he/she/it (delete as applicable) supposedly knows all that happens and will ever happen - even his own future actions. That would drive any sentient being up the walls. :banghead:

I read a short story once, where a man, far in the future, on some colonized planet illegally ate a plant that would let him see the future. After he ate the plant, he lived in the entire extent of his life, past and future. He knew everything that had ever happened to him, and every thing that ever would happen to him, all at the same time. They locked him up and tortured him into telling their future, but he was always in the torture, the same as the rest of his life. Unending.

Horrifying.

But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love.
Her eyes are always hooded. Her claws are sharp as steel.
We teach her not to see too much. We teach her not to feel."

It is because you are thinking it by human terms. Humans do get bored, but that doesn't mean that "god" would. It could be said that the ability to become bored, is a flaw. God is perfect so he doesn't have that flaw. God is supposedly omnipotent, so surely he has the ability to become bored then? Sure, I suppose he does, but he also has the ability to discard it. There are many things "god" could be or have, but he chooses not to be, since they detract from "his" perfection. :levi:

God gets his entertainment from watching people die even though he has the power to prevent it. It's a little like leaving the washing machine door open so that the cat would wonder inside and then close it and turn it on and watching it die. That's how he stays sane. :coffee:

Also, according to religous claims, when we all die and go to this heaven (well not us atheists anyway  ), wouldn't you eventually get bored of heaven once you've done all that you wanted to do? I would be wishing for an end at some point. I may enjoy the first hundred years of doing what I always dreamed if it was not at the cost of worshiping a sad all powerful brat. But in the end I'd still lust for oblivion. The idea of there never being an end scares me, since it's like being incased in existance and not having the choice to leave it.
Kinda like prison but in this case you can do what you want except from being able to leave.

I think gawd must get bored at some point don't you think?

If there was a god... I think the above would have to be true.

I think that if you read the holy books of any religion, you would quickly see that the god of that religion, were he/she/it to exist, almost certainly is mad already, whether that madness manifests itself as the megalomaniacal perfectionism of the judeo-christian/moslem god, or the multiple personality disorder of the hindu god(s).
