I prefer a more realistic and pragmatic view of the world given the history of what happens to black kids in white neighbourhoods.

Black children are perfectly safe in white neighborhoods... at least until they hit their teens. Then I expect that our teen-phobia would combine with what's left of our racism and we'd... keep an eye on them in case they're up to no good.
