Thought you might like to know how they keep Singapore so orderly :

Low crime over there.
Whacking criminals with sticks is certainly cheaper than housing them in prison. Probably more rehabilitative too.
I'd love it if they brought back public flogging for criminals.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Damn, he takes that well. Not a squeak until the fourth one.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

I think anyone caught wearing track suit bottoms, trainers and looking remotely like a chav should be subjected to this 'corrective treatment'. Oh yes!

Uh? while it's rare for me to wear them outside, I still wear tracksuit bottoms longer in a day than I wear formal trousers, and I have no wish to be caned (of course, when I wear shoes at all, they are sensible leather ones)

Those are chavs? I wouldn't bat an eye if I saw that bunch here in the states.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Well, he'll not do it again.

I was in Singapore last year - the cleanliness of the city, its sheer scale and organisation, the friendliness and helpfulness of the people - the overwhelming feeling I had was that the west is fucked.

As someone who grew up in a 'socially conformist' and homogeneous society (Hong Kong) with incredibly low rates of crime, high motivation to 'do well' and so on I can't help but agree!
