It gets better. In the last movie Neville will be one of the most important characters. He does a vital service in the downfall of Voldemort.

One of the things my house-mate says she dislikes about the films is that Emma Watson is far too pretty to be playing Hermione.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

I done an image search of Emma Watson. Safe search is off - What am I doing wrong?

Funny, I was talking to Mrs Dev about the same thing during our walk this morning.Psychoserenity wrote:odysseus wrote:

One of the things my house-mate says she dislikes about the films is that Emma Watson is far too pretty to be playing Hermione.
Our eldest girl is pretty, but her hair is an unmanageable heap of frizz and she has that slightly odd gangliness and awkwardness so typical of 12 year olds. She also has aspbergers but works uncredibly hard at school to overcome her difficulties, but she's been bullied for being different.
She absolutely loves the Harry Potter books and she relates so much to Hermione's awkwardness, bookishness and especially the fact that she is an outsider, different to the "pure bloods". JK Rowling's character has inspired her so much and has given her such comfort.
However, the movies leave her absolutely cold. I understand that Hollywood has to gloss everything and beauty is paramount, but they got Hermione very badly wrong IMO. Emma Watson's portrayal was always too confident and bossy in the early days, too oblivious to the insecurities of the character. As time has gone on that inate confidence just screams from the screen - she is not the Hermione of the books, she is Keira bloody Knightly part deux. Of course she can't help being extremely pretty and leading a high profile real life, but my daughter and presumably millions of other girls struggling to make sense of their world just can't relate to a Hermione with Hollywood looks, £30 million in the bank, rugger bugger ra ra boyfriends and a Harvard education.

The last movie starts today and I have to wait until tomorrow to see it.
