Explosion next door to Millefleur!

Post by Geoff » Wed Jul 13, 2011 4:38 pm

Seriously.

Just had a text from her...power substation nearby has exploded, power is out, no internet and her vodka is getting warm!

A nearby church was on fire, but now under control and "just smoking"...whole area cordoned off by police... :o

I hope she's taking photos.

Church on fire ... check. No miracles there.

Hope Millie and co. are OK.

Predicted to take 24 hours to get the power back on...and they don't have guns for protection against the inevitable looting...

I did nothing.. :shifty: I don't think the engineers knew I could hear them from the garden, sounds like some idiot engineer was tinkering with it earlier, rewired it wrong and KABOOM! :dunno: I assume it was the same one my Dad saw going in this morning, wearing a cowboy hat :fp:

Anyway, nothing too major besides it being a major pain in the arse.. Bit of a panic earlier when the lights started flickering and everything electrical died, heard the girls scream 'Fire!' so bolted upstairs heart in mouth to see them at the window watching plumes of black smoke rising from the church hall. Called 999 and went outside to find loads of neighbours out in the street, two fire engines turned up and police cordoned off the road for a couple of hours. Don't know what it was but it sounded like thunder going on for a few minutes.. Police officer told me the substation was wrecked, still on fire and still live. Engineers arrived and sat in the road with what looked like plans then drove a small digger round the back where I couldn't see. Local shops got their power back about 9 and reopened, ours turned on just now long enough for me to switch the laptop on, rescue my bedding from the washing machine and blow out all the candles before it died again :bored: Hopefully it stays on now.. looks like only half the street has power and the two behind are still off. Just waiting for electric hens to heat back up before I take the chicks back out, was boiling water to fill glass vodka bottles to keep them warm for a bit.
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Damn. Sounds all rather hectic. It reminds me how vulnerable we all are when the technology we rely on goes wrong. Glad to hear all is ok though.
