I always though News of the World made up all it's stories. Now it turns out they actually did some research. Who would've guessed?

The staff on the 2 papers were going to be merged anyway (plans well advanced) - this just another way of doing the same thing. Even if New International out of the Tabloid Sunday Market for a few months then it's small beer money. The upside is that they lose all the current NOTW staff and can (claim) a new start with no legacy issues.........what I have not seen mention of yet is whether News International will be standing behind any fines / judgements against the NOTW - of whether they will seek to hide behind limited liability and the NOTW by then having no assets / no business - no money.

I am also very curious to see how the US end works out - sounds a lot like intentional (and high level) money laundering and racketeering (police corruption) - probably some "wire fraud" in there as well (on TV it would be!) and as News Corp is listed in the US the SEC / FBI may well become interested. Easy to see things going to a Grand Jury - and the US has a way of making deals with folk to avoid 400 year sentences in exchange for testimony (not accepting a defence of "I was deliberately blind" helps)......and besides all that, a Class Action from Investors is not impossible...........what Murdoch has been desperate to avoid (and has been very successful so far) is anyone getting to court and giving evidence under oath, as then can't change the story as needed.

The slightest hint of executive knowledge (strictly - notice, actual or constructive), and the courts are entitled to lift the corporate veil, and pursue fault right into private assets.

It will be interesting to see how far any investigation is allowed to go.

Britain is the country that, after all, allowed a foreign state, Saudi Arabia, to reach in and snuff out a judicial enquiry into corrupt payments by arms manufacturer and dealer BAE Systems to Saudi officials, merely by threatening not to buy.

Earlier we heard that the sundaysun.co.uk and sundaysun.com domain names had been registered two days ago.

Wankers.

www.sundaysun.co.uk has been up and running for years, a newspaper site but not connected to News International.

Can someone show some domain details for some of these registrations, it's pretty simple to check.

I'm not in the business of defending the Murdochs - far from it, I think they have been a malign influence - but it is quite possible that baby M knew nothing. The UK Murdoch holdings are only 10% of their overall holdings and the NOW only a small portion of that. They must make payments to 'investigators' all the time. TV is their biggest business too and probably takes up much of their time.

Especially since that was BEFORE the revelations about the Soham and soldier hacks. The Murdochs knew what was coming and chose to get ready for cutting their losses and making even more money, rather than being up-front and forthcoming with their information.

BTW, I have heard and read on the BBC that a dissolved company has no legal obligation to keep ANY records once it has closed. Therefore the shredders and degaussers will be working overtime shortly, and no more evidence will remain.
Can anyone with legal knowledge confirm/deny the accuracy of that law?

Just heard on the radio that police have been at the offices of the Daily Star/Sunday - no further information - there is speculation that it could be to interview a senior editor there that used to work for NOTW but that is only a guess...

They are obliged to keep certain records - such as accounts etc.

Also, if they're found to have destroyed records pertinent to an ongoing judicial enquiry, they'll be up shit creek.
