I must admit, that's exactly what I thought of when Coito was saying about "the love of a master to a servant". :hehe:

But I don't think there is really much of a gay thing in the films - it's just showing that they've had a long and difficult journey together and they really depended on each other.

And as for the google result, you get the same thing with "Harry and Ron".

They can do dancerrs at the end of time and Jerry cornelius while they are at it
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

RE: Harry and Ron - exactly!

Somehow I can't picture Ernest Shackleton and Co being all doey eyed with each other. Neither could I imagine Ray Mears going all gooey at the sight of a pal.

(Even if they were gay, I imagine they'd just be bloody getting on with it, with a grim and determined manner. A bit more stoic. A bit less whingy).

Well, now, that is a book that describes all sorts. I'd be cool with that, because Djerek Carnelian/Jerry Cornelius/one of his many incarnations was presented as being in love with a guy that would be absolutely consistent, because that is how he presented himself - omnisexual.

(Great book by the way).

Very worried that Jackson is going to wrap a cheesecloth across the front of his camera lenses, and "mills and boon" up the journey from The Shire to the Lonely Mountain, like he did with Sam and Frodo in Mordor. (Which was utterly utterly shite).
Indeed. Talking spiders, dragons and birds are all OK in a book, but on screen ... heaven knows how they'll pull all that off. :nono:

As for the three trolls ... :eddy:
As long as he doesn't get too "comic relief" about it all.... I HATE stuff in movies like the little blurbs we had in LOTR like "Nobody tosses a dwarf!" Or, Legolas mimicking skateboarding during battles. That kind of thing ruins the fantasy of it all - you want to suspend disbelief, and any sort of making light of itself or infusing humor from our world into their world ruins it.

If he sticks with the story, and simply portrays what Tolkien wrote on the screen in the same quality as he did in LOTR, it will be awesome. The spiders in Mirkwood just have to be evil spiders - it's o.k. that they can talk because this is Middle Earth and that's the way the magic works. Heck, Beorn is a shapeshifter that turns into a bear - and Smaug the dragon talks too. The key is to make it for adults - not children. Don't make it all "funny" with spiders getting knocked around like basketballs or making witty little comments and such -- make them pure, in sense, evil, and have the dwarves and hobbit escape as if it was a truly frightening and risky event....

Andy Serkis looks half-dead in that clip - three films opening this year plus working for Peter Jackson may be a bit much even for him.

I hope he gets to rest well during the break.

Andy still looks like hammered horseshit I see. How many irons does he have in the fire right now?

Hobbiton was the only set left from LOTR, so it should be easy enough to get back in shape.
