What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I don't understand why he's not dead yet, or why a lot of the public sympathise with him, or take the silly view that he wouldn't be resorting to such desperate threats of annihilation were it not for NATO's intervention. He's an absolute scumbag, and the type of person every rational, freedom and democracy embracing individual should despise.

At least he hasn't imposed Sharia. That's like saying "At least I'm not as trashy as those people on Jerry Springer" though.Lozzer wrote:I don't understand why he's not dead yet, or why a lot of the public sympathise with him, or take the silly view that he wouldn't be resorting to such desperate threats of annihilation were it not for NATO's intervention. For all intents and purposes, his regime is inseparable from 'traditional' despotic theocracies.Robert_S wrote:At least he hasn't imposed Sharia. a) no head of state with the kind of black op sector needed for such a thing has yet had the balls to give the order
or
b) he's paranoid enough to have evaded the killers as of yet
I guess b) or the bombardment incident where one of his sons and some grandchildren were killed would not have happened.
As for the public having sympathies for him... where do you live, Bizarro world?

No, I just keep coming across British people online and in general who feel any retaliation from the conflict is the fault of interfering, busy-body western governments. Others try and justify his actions by claiming we've 'targeted and killed' his grandchildren, and whatever.

Oh, you mean the kind of bloomin' ultra liberal morons who are all about 'the West is Evil' and cultural relativism and how we ought to all commit suicide, with the possible exception of nubile women, and bequeathe all our lands, goods, survivors, culture and technology to our former colonies as the least of possible amends?

Given Sharia law is viewed as a real alternative in that region, perhaps this helps explain Qadafi's popularity.Robert_S wrote:At least he hasn't imposed Sharia. That's like saying "At least I'm not as trashy as those people on Jerry Springer" though.

Re: Gadaffi on his rag week
Gadaffi given different circumstances would probably be a world famous fashion designer living a life of luxury in Milan or Paris.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
