Aw shit. I've been rumbled!

:leave:

Everyone in my town thinks I'm a communist because I went into a pub two years ago wearing an ushanka with a soviet badge on the front (It's my winter hat, I added the badge to piss people off). I've now been barred from said pub and the older folks give me funny looks on the street.
I think you are a communist because you have the word "red"in your name... :ask:
Ultimately, it's God's colour. God invented all the colours of the rainbow and all those godless commies can fuck right off with their appropriation of his holy light spectrum. Amen.

You both seem to be arguing that communism and anarchy are examples silly, unworkable, anachronistic, and unrealistically idealistic of the dangers of human fallibility.

(Which they are).

*sigh* Fine.

There's no pleasing some capitalist pigs.

Please fill out your 300 forms, in triplicate mind, to request your stale response.

Happy? . . . No? Didn't think so.

There. Communism in action.

Ah. Good.

I wouldn't like to be considered a Marxist.

Although, some of his analysis had something to it - specifically, the relationship of economics to politics. Although, in this he wasn't all that original...
One of my theories on Marx was that he really didn't see the proletariat as having any ability to contribute to government and that giving them the vote was meaningless. There ought to be a knowledgeable ruling party that would set the rules, and the proletariat would follow. The idea was that the equalization of everything (among the proles...) and selling the notion that that they were no longer ruled by a King would make them satisfied with their position. The conditions in, say, Czarist Russia were ripe for this because Communism could offer the serfs (who were no better off than abject slaves) could lift the serfs up a bit collectively, too. So, once you did that, then they would see they were better off than under their former despot and be happy with their lot.
Certainly not in their initial form. His theory was that knowledgeable oversight of a ruling socialist party would teach people to become self-governing communists.
Which is why I keep telling everyone that Marx was an idiot, and so are all his followers. First, people don't become "self-governing communists" because most people don't know how to govern themselves, much less how to govern a society, much less do it collectively where every Ivan, Nadya and Katya gets to stick their oar in to collective decision making if they want to, if they want to, which mostly they don't.

One need only look at the dismal voter turnout in almost any country (except perhaps Iraq during their first vote in generations) to see that most people are busy trying to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads to be constantly attending collective meetings to determine how many potatoes will be planted or how many tractors need to be manufactured.

So, they "elect" someone to "represent" their interests so that they can leave the scut-work of government up to someone else while they get on with living their own lives, with the hope that their representatives won't intrude too much into how they go about their lives. A vain hope, usually, but a nearly universal one. I know almost no one who wants more government busybodies intruding into THEIR personal lives...although I'm acquainted with innumerable nosy busybodies who are perfectly happy to proselytize for the intruding of government busybodies into OTHER PEOPLE'S lives.

Communism doesn't, and cannot work because both socialism and communism utterly ignore fundamental human social behavior in pursuit of an unattainable utopian ideal.

It's only attractive to the ignorant, propagandized, indoctrinated lumpen proletariat, and anyone with a lick of sense sees right through the charade and either fights against the inevitable tyranny that always without fail grows from socialism and communism, or they opportunistically decide to take advantage of the useful idiots of the proletariat to consolidate their own wealth and privilege as part of the elite Marxist intelligentsia who wield absolute power and seize absolute privilege.

Stateless societies can only work if the entire population is willing to partake and they are all at or above a certain level of knowledge. Without total control over one's actions and knowledge of all areas of running a country such a society will not be possible as there will still be dependent citizens who require leadership of some form. This is the inherent flaw of all stateless ideologies, Communist, Anarchist, Libertarian or otherwise.

Libertarianism is not a "stateless society." It's a society where the state is small and carefully controlled to keep it from intruding on the right of individuals to make agreements among themselves and live their lives free of interference unless and until they perpetrate force or fraud on another. Otherwise I agree with you.
Many political philosophers, particularly anarchist ones, have attempted to map the details of such a society. I don't think people's objections about outside interference can be completely disregarded. I would imagine that a US which pursued a neutral or friendly foreign policy towards Cuba would have resulted in that nation's inhabitants being in a better position than they are now.
Yes, they long ago would have tossed Castro out on his ear and reinstituted capitalism if only the US had supported their efforts to do so by providing arms, ammunition and training for the many freedom-fighters who still live in Cuba...and in the US. It was the Soviet Union that kept the US from supporting the overthrow of Cuban despotism, and as soon as the Soviet Union collapsed, we should have deposed Castro and returned the island to its people and welcomed them with open arms.

When you lie down with pigs...

Brings to mind all the mindless Marxist dupes who like to wear tee-shirts with Che Guevara on them. They think it's "hip" to wear an image of a revolutionary icon without any understanding of what a murderous fuck he really was.

I just wish someone had an image of Che with his face half blown off by a bullet in the back of his head, something he did to a good many "counterrevolutionaries" personally.

I'd wear one of those, with a caption "Death to Tyrants!"

Side note: When traveling in the Middle East, refrain from carrying the popular shoulder satchel available from Banana Republic and other outlets with the red wings on the flap...it's an Israeli military satchel and carrying one can get you killed in some places. It pays to pay attention to your wardrobe if you don't want to be stereotyped.

I wrongly conflated libertarianism and anarcho-capitalism. I was tired when I wrote that post.

Or worse still, proving they have no sense of irony whatsoever.

I have no intention of ever going to that hell-hole known as Banana Republic, or the Middle East. Adopting certain stereotypes is the best way to provoke people. When I'm not on the internet, I'm trolling old people in real life with extremist political opinions I don't actually hold. Not that I need to explain the mechanics of trolling to you.

Chavez, like every banana-republic dictator, gets flown to that socialist paradise of Cuba for the very best of medical care. Meanwhile, the peons in Venezuela get told they are too expensive to treat in government-run hospitals, so they will just have to die and get out of the way of the glorious Marxist revolution.

Fucking hypocrite talks the talk but won't walk the walk and stand in Marxist egalitarian solidarity by checking into a Venezuelan government hospital like any other peon and take his chances.
