Fats are necessary. One does need fat. Children under two need saturated fats.

Re: Ban Ronald McDonald?
McDonald's gives parents the option of fruit instead of fries with those Happy Meals.
What bothers me the most about fast food is all the packaging. I like being able to stop in during work for a salad, but they want to put it into a huge plastic bag and the salad itself is in a plastic bowl with a plastic lid and the fork and dressing are in a separate bag too. All that stuff just goes from McDonald's directly into the garbage. I hate that.
I usually refuse the bag, when I keep it I reuse it to bring my lunch to work in. I can use the same one over and over again for months. For fucking months.
I wish there was a way to get a salad without the bowl.
And, we should be able to buy more things in bulk. Bring our own containers and refill them.
If sanitation is a concern then bring the container back and exchange it for a cleaned one to put whatever you are buying in. Sort of like the old days when people turned in pop bottles to be refilled.

Re: Ban Ronald McDonald?
Bringing our own containers would be effing AWESOME idea...they can even sell reusable containers...
Get this idea --- a "salad shooter" machine behind the counter - you go up to the register with reusable salad bowl - they take the bowl to the salad machine, press a button and a specified amount of salad shoots out into the bowl. Another button and your dressing of choice is added as a splooge on top. They hand you the bowl. Done. And, they ought to have reusable drink containers - you buy a Micky D drink bottle of $X and then you get lower priced sodas in that reusable container.
And, they ought to have like a reusable to-go box, so that they can discount the price if you don't use the paper containers....
Hmmm.....

A salad shooter machine would be awesome. I think people would buy salads just to see the machine in action.
The convenience/gas stations already sell refillable drink containers. And the price for a refill is significantly less than one in a disposable cup.
I think people should be charged for the plastic bags at the supermarket and it should hurt--like a dollar each. Then get a dime back for every one of the reusable fabric ones they use. You can pack more in the fabric ones anyway.
There could be whole new industries built around these ideas.

Just watching Morrissey at Glastonbury and made me think of this thread unfortunately.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Philistine. Everyone knows salad greens should be torn, not cut.Gallstones wrote:You don't have to know how to make a salad--cause that would entail cutting things up

Grocery stores in my area provide a 5c rebate for each reusable bag you bring in to use.Gallstones wrote:I think people should be charged for the plastic bags at the supermarket and it should hurt--like a dollar each. The reusable ones are actually many times heavier and more expensive than the disposable ones, though, so it takes quite a few uses before it makes either environmental or monetary sense to use them.

But from at least two other points of view it makes sense:Warren Dew wrote:Grocery stores in my area provide a 5c rebate for each reusable bag you bring in to use.Gallstones wrote:I think people should be charged for the plastic bags at the supermarket and it should hurt--like a dollar each. 1. It will reduce visual pollution, as there'll be fewer plastic bags blowing around, getting caught in tree branches etc.
and
2. It reduces the business case for plastic bag manufacturers, and therefore plastc bag production overall will fall.
