Anyway, I wasn't impressed. Ayaan wasn't impressed. It seemed to be a checklist movie to me, They had to get certain things "out there" so the franchise could proceed.

They didn't explain why Erick didn't kill Shaw when he could have, in the camp. There was metal everywhere and he'd just killed two guards. Also, in the first X-man movie Xavier doesn't know how Erick can block his thoughts. In this movie he knows Erick had Shaw's helmet.

Shaw's helmet? Since when does Magneto's helm have special properties, and since when is it a former property of the Black King?
Either the comic writers smoke an impressive acreage of carpeting since last I followed it, or the movie writers really belong in my garden, playing scarecrow from atop a stake.

But at the time it didn't make any sense and was just an annoying wart on the whole thing. It was badly handled.

When you start with a comic book the movie just can't be expected to reach the heights. I just wish they would smooth out the lumps a bit before serving it.

Well, she swore high and low she would write no more harry potter, so if she writes more stuff about him, I'll have toilet paper printed with her pic made.

and I may be wrong, but I'm really having the feeling it will be a prequel rather than sequel.

and I'm fully entitled to whine after I bought all 7 books and never finished N°7 because her writing style and ability to produce a page turner deteriorated as the series advanced.

Given the fact that she was deliberately on the dole when she created the franchise, I think the British people should own the copyrights and should take the profits, since she was effectively working for hire for the British government.

Well I love the Harry Potter books, so if there's more then that's good news as far as I'm concerned. Certainly the Potter books were not High Art or Great Literature. But if you took them for what the were, they were great fun. Although Harry himself was probably the least interesting character in the books.

They're meant to be read as a person goes from age 11 to age 18, though I doubt an eleven year old would have the patience to wait for that timing.

My daughter was 8 when the first one came out, and she loved it straight away (before all the hype started, in fact). Yeah, she was impatient for the next one, of course, but that just added to the thrill when it was released.

Indeed, funny how he's all individualistic capitalism until some other pet peeve, like unemployed good for nothings come up, then the wires cross and he suddenly advocates stripping a successful businesswoman of her profits, just because she landed on the dole before she found the way out of it.

oh, they could handle it alright, it's just that if she'd started the series with that book, rather than submitting it as a best selling author with an already waiting audience, any publisher would have told her to take a flying hike and to read classic young adult literature like Millenium rather than trying to be a softer and more emo Anne Rice.

Thank you for your opinion. I re-read it a few weeks ago in preparation for the final movie. I appreciated it more then than I did the first six or seven times I read it.

We seem to be pretty even there. I have lost count, though (and don't find counting too meaningful, either). I know I have read book 1 more than 12 times but less than 15.

I reread books when I'm stressed with studies. The Hobbit, anything by Astrid Lindgren or Tove Jansson, His Dark Materials, Hitchhiker's, The Little House series, anything by Roald Dahl or James Herriot, the Potter books ... I cannot fall asleep without decoupling from the "gotta finish task X" thoughts, and the most efficient way I have found is filling my head with a story that I already know.

To those of a different persuasion: If you don't like Harry Potter books - then don't read any and don't read fan ravings either. It's not like we come in pairs, ring your doorbell and insist that you join us, is it?
