Re: If you could remake the movie Casablanca today...
I don't like the acting style of old movies. It's a film. Not a play.

I saw that those movies were on last night, but I did not watch them. Village of the Giants is on tomorrow night. And, if you stay up late, A Face in the Crowd is on at 1215am tonight....Bella Fortuna wrote:The only cable channel I watch.Coito ergo sum wrote:TCM on like a Thursday night...bottle of wine...snugglin' on the couch....Bella Fortuna wrote:Old movies are the bestest.
Watched 'So Long At the Fair' and 'Trio' last night and 'King and Country' a few nights ago....Though it is better to share with a fellow film aficionado.

I grew up in the post-Second World War UK, during the revolution and the civil war after which the Party assumed power. During the civil war, Ingsoc placed me in an orphanage for training and subsequent employment as a civil servant. I maintain a squalid existence, living in a one-room apartment, eating a subsistence diet of black bread and synthetic meals washed down with Victory-brand gin. I keep a journal of negative thoughts and opinions about the Party and Big Brother, which, if discovered by the Thought Police, will warrant death, so don't tell on me. I am fortunate, because the apartment I live in has an alcove, beside the telescreen, where it cannot see me, and so my thoughts remain private.

"With the coming of the Second World War, many eyes in imprisoned Europe turned hopefully, or desperately, toward the freedom of the Americas. Lisbon became the great embarkation point. But, not everybody could get to Lisbon directly, and so a tortuous, roundabout refugee trail sprang up - Paris to Marseilles... across the Mediterranean to Oran... then by train, or auto, or foot across the rim of Africa, to Casablanca in French Morocco. Here, the fortunate ones through money, or influence, or luck, might obtain exit visas and scurry to Lisbon; and from Lisbon, to the New World. But the others wait in Casablanca... and wait... and wait... and wait...."

Rick: Why did you come back? To tell me why you ran out on me at the railway station?
Ilsa: ...Yes.
Rick: Well, you can tell me now. I'm reasonably sober.
