The City wants to mandate that you put your keys outside in a lockbox so whenever they need to get into the property they can just access it.

It's the wave of the future, I'm sure.

I can guarantee we will eventually see the suggestion that there ought to be cameras and microphones in our houses. First, it will be that they will only be turned on if there is an issue or a reason to turn them on. That will get the idea in the door - hit a button and the police will be able to see if your house is being robbed - set motion detectors when you're not there, etc. Once they're in the house, there will be some need to have some discretionary authority to turn them on here and there, and then it will be allowed to do random surveillance, and finally it will be - well, having them all on at the same time doesn't present any individualized invasion, just a generalized surveillance, so it'll just be allowed whenever.

Seth in 5....4.....3....
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Over 12,000 posts, and you start a poll with no "cheese" option? :nono:

But at least burglars will only need to break into a little box. A pair of bolt-cutters should do the trick. Much less hassle than breaking into an actual house.

This derail is hard to swallow.

My new lease includes a legal notice saying that I might be on CCTV in 'public' areas !

When anyone says that, I suggest they check their medicine cabinet and their bedroom activities, and indicate whether they care if everyone knows the details. After all, if you've nothing to hide...

Just a few ruffled feathers... :coffee:
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J
