Again, that makes no sense because if men found diamonds as desirable as women do, then men would buy diamonds for themselves and ask for them as gifts, as much as women do. They don't. The market for diamonds is aimed at women, regardless of who is actually doing the purchasing, because it is women who either buy for themselves or receive as gifts the overwhelmingly vast majority of diamonds.
Do men, in general, "like" jewelry as much as women do?
Not in my experience. My experience is consistent with women having overflowing jewelry boxes, generally wearing multiple pieces of jewelry of varying types, and shopping for and talking about adornments far more often and in far more detail than men ever do. Generally speaking, of course.
You know who is always more interested in my rings, what they are, what the stone is, where I got them from?----men.

Maybe they are just making conversation.
If your artwork and your stated preferences are anything to go by, you probably choose jewelry that's actually interesting rather than what everybody else has or what signifies status.
Gallstones wrote:It is difficult for me to have this conversation with you because you insist on making generalizations and I don't fit the generalizations and can't speak to the generalizations since I am not the generalizations. I only have my own preferences and experiences to go by. And I am not some freak of nature. I keep the third eye hidden by long hair, I pluck the curly black hair that grows out of my mole, and camouflage the hump with shoulder pads.

And isn't it attributable to enculturation--jewelry is investment. It has economic value and imparts social status beyond being "pretty". Men give it to women to woo and keep them.
I think I would love even a diamond, not because it was a diamond, but love it more for having been given it than having bought it.
I find diamonds to be boring really. Culturally, I think it's more about what a diamond signifies than what it actually looks like.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Oh Robert :FIO:
I make my own earrings, did you know that? :hi:

I have two rings, a silver dragon curled around a lapis yin yang (looks like your "S") that I bought at a Ralph's store while in college; and a small, "feminine" gold ring with a pink pearl that I bought at a swap meet when I was 15.

I fortuitously happen to have pics.

Yes, I agree. That's what I have been trying to imply. Diamonds symbolize something and are desired more for that than for their aesthetic value. Have you seen the chocolate ones though?

From what I understand, flawless emeralds have greater value than similar weight diamonds.

Seriously, I love walking the big hardware/home improvement stores. Not just for the tools, but even for the hardware--nuts, bolts, hinges, fasteners, eye hooks........ :shifty:

:sigh: It is so hard being an anomaly.

I like the rings alot!

I've not seen any of these chocolate diamonds yet though.

Brown diamonds are...........brown diamonds .........AKA diamonds with poor color.
So what, I like them better. How many brown stones are there?

I checked out prices while I was doing my research........

Pics never seem to do stones justice. Anyway, I'm off to try to look masculine while photographing flowers.

Perhaps an anomaly statistically speaking, but by no means a tiny minority, I would say...

PS1 Love the jewlery you made!

PS2 I like hardware stores bigtime; but they are dangerous to my wallet...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?

I know, but looking gives me ideas. You see what's there, you get ideas about what to do with it........

I never acquired the makeup habit. I tried it in Jr High but it felt like my face was dirty, and I couldn't stand the feeling. So, no make up. Besides, men don't wear makeup.

Soap--OK I do buy special face cleanser--water, moisturizer. I don't "do" my hair either; just wash, comb and go. I rely on cut to keep it looking the way I like it.

Usually I go for either the wildflowers in the woods, the parks the city and university gardens and and the ones in the backyard. Some of the pics goon my Flickr and/or Facebook account and a few get printed off and put up for sale at the local artists co-op. I also like to shoot mushrooms, deer, birds, alleyways, trees, sunsets and sunrises.
