I think I've found another invasive species.

Post by Robert_S » Thu May 26, 2011 8:48 am

I was walking about in the woods photographing this and that when I came upon what I thought was a brood of spiders. It turned out to be some ants with big red swollen (suppurating?) arses standin stock still shown here:

More Ants by Robschilli, on Flickr

and in the picture thread.

I thought it must be some weird mating or spawning thing, but it turns out that they are actually infected with Myrmeconema Neotropicum

Super awesome, another weird invasive thing come to further screw up the local ecosystem...

:sighsm:
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The Net is best considered analogous to communication with disincarnate intelligences. As any neophyte would tell you. Do not invoke that which you have no facility to banish.

I would inform someone at the relevant agency that you have found a colony infested with it.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

   $str = str_replace(array("\{","\}")," ",$str);

So that's why they were "just sitting there"?

It's amazing that evolution can produce an effective lifestyle that a human brain would never have thought of.
Maybe we could invent stuff like this now, now that evolution has shown us the way, but before that, I doubt if anyone could have written it as a story.
It's only evolution that could ever explain something like that.
I'd like to know why a god would have designed it.

It's another that deserves the old saying, "you just couldn't make it up".

It makes me wonder just what kind of aliens are out there, if stuff like that has evolved here on Earth.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

This is why I laugh at people who say that "This is the end of life as we know it." First, we don't know it, we've just glimpsed a bit of it. Second, life is very, very hard to kill off. Lava flows the size of large countries? Nah. Total freeze-over of the planet? Nah. Texas impacting the Caribbean? Nope.

The ants or the car? :ask:
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J
