As soon as the market get saturated they'll make the apps available for netbooks. And a major price cut. They already have Kindle apps for 'droids.

CES pretty much said it all. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab and for reading ebooks it is good, but the Sony e reader my colleague has is much better at it and has a much longer battery life due to the fact that e-ink doesn't need power until a page gets turned.

Forgot about the battery life - yes, it lasts for something like a week of reading at least.

When a tablet has e-ink, the kindle/nook will die. Right now, however, $99 or $149 makes it worth it, for the simple reason that the less expensive books pay for the reader. So, if I buy 10 books I was going to buy anyway, and thereby pay for the reader, I can now carry the reader, and all the books, the same way as I would previously be able to carry only one book. And, for the same total cost.

Single-purpose items have a much higher mortality rate. Got a PDA anywhere in the house?

The Kindle app will probably run on a netbook now, it runs on any PC, so why not?

I have a Kindle and a Droid phone and I read on both. I don't carry the Kindle around because the Droid fits in my pocket. I read the Kindle lying down a lot, so not sure if a netbook/laptop would work for that. I'm about to find out since I'm shopping netbooks to take to work because they blocked my website. I'm gonna try tethering the Droid to the netbook.

Amazon allows you to register up to 6 devices on a single Kindle account. So I can have the Kindle, the Droid, the home PC and the netbook all loaded with my books, and they all keep up with where I am in each book. So I can switch devices and it will ask me if I want to go to the same page that I was reading at on one of the other devices. Kewl!

And, I can lose every device, but all my books are backed-up and waiting at the Amazon cloud to be downloaded again. Way kewl because I will never move boxes of books again.

So, it's really not either/or on getting an e-reader or other device. It's yes to all!

E-Readers weigh significantly less, making them very easy to hold for a long period of time.

The average price of a Netbook is at minimum $200 - $300...you can get a Kindle for $114.
And from memory you can get up to a month or so of battery charge on a Kindle. Average for a netbook would be about 6 or 7 hours.

It's not a computer. That's the bit you are not understanding. It's a specialist book replacement.

It is, troll.
Oh, and the tremendous weight of a net book certain isn't a point in my favor, fer shure.
Sure, read your netbook lying down in bed with one hand? Read it on the bus with one hand? Read it in bright sunlight?

It is, actually. Most folks who own an ereader only want it for the purpose of reading books. That's why they like the screen to be in black-and-white mimicking a book.

I didn't say the netbook had tremendous weight. It is simply bulkier than an ereader, and as I mentioned you can't lay on the couch or in bed and read a netbook like you do an ereader, and it's much better to read an ereader on the beach than it is to read a netbook on the beach. And, if one is traveling on a plane, one can toss the ereader in one's carryon easily.
Single-purpose is not a selling point, it's a handicap.
I'll tell you what IS a handicap, and it's not the single-purpose e-book. It's trollish behaviour on the internet. :ask:
So far you have "beach" and "bright sunshine" (ergo, rather redundant) in the advantage column. The netbook we have here weights twice what a Nook does, and still comes in under five pounds. BFD.
You're not listening, troll.
