Gawdzilla wrote:Ah, police. Pay them like shit and hold them to a higher standard than the rest of the public. Nope, I don't see a problem there.
As far as I can tell, they ARE paid quite well.

Also, they seem to be held to a lesser standard than the rest of the public (perhaps a perusal of sentencing of police vs non-police is needed to show this?)

Perhaps the problem is that when they do lose their temper a bit, they have their best mates conducting the investigation, and their bosses trying to keep things quiet so the force doesn't look bad.

I am very happy that the public is beginning to video the police.

Would you 'just answer a few questions', Gawdzilla? Or would you refuse to tell them anything? What do you think you SHOULD do (as a good citizen, I mean)

Everything is better in Cuba. It's an egalitarian workers Paradise, where the people are happy and content, everyone gets free healthcare, and the police say "please" and "thank you."

Cops in the US are worse than anything, because everything about the US sucks. It's just a capitalist nightmare that oppresses the people and creates empires.

The officers told the guy to get out of the area, but he did not. that is, the CUT HIM SOME SLACK! He should have gotten a ticket for public consumption but instead they let him off for that. The guy in the wheelchair responded by being a jerk about it. Fuck him.

There are plenty of asshole cops out there who should probably have their oxygen supply severely limited, but there are also a lot of laid back ones who will be cool as long as you're not an asshole or a real danger. But after you're an asshole to someone who is refraining from giving you that ticket or taking you to jail, why should the rest of us have any sympathy?

Also, fuck paraplegics if they think they're above the law. If you get caught drinking in public and they tell you to fuck off someplace else, fuck off someplace else and make an effort to be a little more discreet next time.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

No law against being a jerk. Fuck the cops.

Nothing seems laid back about two dickheads who were not in any danger, and were simply 'disrespected' assaulting a citizen.

They didn't do this guy any favors. I'd prefer they just did their job and wrote the fucking ticket, rather than throw the guy to the ground on his face.

If they told him to fuck off someplace else, and he refused, AND if he had no right to be there doing what he was doing, then they should have arrested him.

While I agree with you in theory, I wonder if you have seriously considered just how complicated it can be for a paraplegic to 'fuck off someplace else' and 'be a little more discreet'. I mean this in a real way. If you haven't, I would like to dare you to confine yourself to a wheelchair for an average workday Friday, then go out for a piss-up. I suspect your sympathy might rise slightly for the drunk.

I could not view the video from here, but the details don't matter. Bitching here won't, either. What would matter is adding effort to those monitoring and investigating the police.

Oh, and if you think the police are good guys there to help you, watch this before you talk to them. (watch the first part of the video if you are still in doubt after watching this second part)

You mean freedumb? Where does that exist in Amerikkka? Only for the richest 1% who aren't paying their fair share. Everyone else is dying in the streets from a lack of health care, and 70% of the kids are obese while at the same time starving from lack of free school lunch programs. Freedumb? Bah! Doesn't exist. It's manufacturing consent, man. Chomsky had it right, man. The Corporations are just using the people and turning them into Little Eichmanns. They control everything, including the Deibold voting machines, so that only the Corporate chosen ones can get elected. If it wasn't for the U.S., the world would be all tranquility, peace, love and understanding. That's all the rest of the world wants - equality, peace and love. It's 30 years of deregulation and corporate greed in this libertarian fascist corporateocracy......

If you don't love freedomland why don't you move? The richest 1% create all the jobs, they pay their fair share by helping the poorest of the poor when their wealth trickles down. Lack of health care? Freedomland has the best health care on the planet, just get a fucking job so you can pay for it like the rest of us, lazy sod. Obese kids? They are just free enough to choose what they want to eat. Better the corporations run everything than the governement, at least theirs competition. What do you want? The poor, lazy people in office? Fuck that. If it wasn't for the US the rest of the world would be speaking arabic, or german, or japenese, or vietnamese. The US is a capitalist utopia, freedom for all, they just want to share the freedom with the rest of the ignorant planet.

Looks to me like they were arresting him in the standard way but his feet got tangled in the chair. The biggest complaint I see here is that maybe the police need more training for arresting the disabled. I just don't see them going out of their way to be mean to the guy in the video.

If two trained police officers can't cuff a paraplegic who is sitting in a wheelchair without faceplanting him into the sidewalk, the cops ought to be fired for incompetence. They know how to cuff the guy.
