The presentation my lecturer gave me is.....disturbing

Post by Dory » Mon May 23, 2011 5:11 pm

No, not in a sexual sense (I know you were hoping for that)-- we're not there yet. But, in another sense. I just saw it in my email a few minutes ago.

It's in English. Watch it till the end.

Well yes, maths is beautiful...but as Laplace said: "there is no need for that [god] hypothesis".

I agree-- very sweet! :) I love my lecturer and will definitely give him my thanks regardless of what I actually believe in.

w00t, Rum :D -- why the long face? What happened to the nature-loving smiley guy? Why is he replaced by cheek-at-palm cynic guy?

Glad you are still around occasionally.

Some of the arithmetical patterns are pretty nice. That 111111111^2 = 12345678987654321 is neat, though in base 10 it stops working there.

Symmetry in mathematics is lovely, but as Douglas Adams once said: "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.
