Personally I have always been fond of Clarke - particularly his ability to cut through political BS and say what he really thinks. Besides the points identified above he also pointed out that a case of an 18 year old male sleeping with his 15 year old girlfriend is technically and legally rape, but that such cases are not normally progressed. Everyone then get really pissed off that he was suggesting some rapes are 'less serious' than others.

We have an example here of a subject that no matter what you say somebody is going to make a huge fuss and demand you resign..or commit hara-kiri because it is the worst thing evah anyone evah said!

The word "rape" is thrown around much too freely. It brings to mind violent physical coercion, but this isn't always the case. In the scenario referred to by Rum, a couple may consist of one partner slightly above the arbitrary age of of consent, and one slightly below. If they have sex, is it rape? By any reasonable common sense definition of the word, no. By legal definition? Yes. So, when is rape not rape? When it's not really fucking rape. But if the law says it's rape, then hysterical knee-jerk reactions aside, it makes perfect logical sense to treat different cases of rape differently. A violent coercive rape should certainly not be treated the same as consensual sex which just happens to be considered illegal by the letter of the law.

If I am asleep and I have a partner and my partner is "giving me the time" while I am sleeping and I wake up to it, all I can say is fucking don't do that. Just don't. I am not a thing. How about he tries to wake me up and see if I'm in the mood first? How about he wakes me up and tries to put me in the mood first? How about he wakes me up so I have the option of consenting or declining?

Well let me help you out there. My wife has done that to me once or twice, and it's a fantastic way to wake up! Maybe it's different for guys than girls, I don't know.
