"Inside the human body" - BBC1 Thursday 9pm
Re: "Inside the human body" - BBC1 Thursday 9pm
Oh. You were all watching the non-HD version. I see.
It's on in an hour in HD awesomeness for those of us living in 2011.

It makes no difference, all your sperm are still going to die, even in HD.

Re: "Inside the human body" - BBC1 Thursday 9pm
I caught the last five minutes of this last night and it was just about the most incredible piece of TV I've ever seen.
An 84 year old man called Gerald agreed to have his last moments filmed as he died in bed surrounded by his family. The narrator quietly explained with CGI imagery how the heart stopped, circualtion stopped, and Gerald took his last breath. I've never seen anyone dying, so it was captivating. The old boy seemed to be semi-conscious in the last few seconds, then he closed his eyes and made a faint little movement as if trying to grab another breath. Then his son immediately said "I think he's gone", and he was. The difference between life and death was instantly apparent. It was an incredibly moving scene, not at all voyeuristic, "upsetting" or "disturbing" as many tabloids had put it.

The tabloids seem to have written this before seeing it.
Sure they gave out about the wonderful autopsy series, too.
edit. mistake

Last night's - about the brain - was the first episode I have seen. It was very impressive - and unusually for someone who reads popular science stuff pretty voraciously, there was a lot I had never read or heard about before concerning the brain. Brilliantly done.

The adaptability and plasticity of the brain is remarkable.

Haven't watched last night's yet, but the first two were excellent...you'll probably find them on BBC iPlayer, well worth it.Rum wrote:Last night's - about the brain - was the first episode I have seen. The little girl with half a brain was quite amazing, I didn't realise that the fully functioning half would compensate to that extent. I was in and out of the room near the end but she seemed to be doing well - but I'd have liked to know what her future holds, perhaps I missed that bit.Clinton Huxley wrote:The adaptability and plasticity of the brain is remarkable.

Stories like that always make me blub in a most ungentlemanly way. I think the girl was doing well but I'm not sure what percentage of the function of the damaged half of her brain the other half could take over.Millefleur wrote:The little girl with half a brain was quite amazing, I didn't realise that the fully functioning half would compensate to that extent.
