My son asked me............
This morning as I was driving my son to school, all sleepy and shit, he says "Mom, do you believe that the world is going to end this Saturday"?
I was like, "whaaaa?" I'm too busy this Saturday, it can't end..............

Re: My son asked me............
How old is he Kiki? I ask because these sorts of shitheaded stupid ideas can really mess with a kid's mind and cause anxiety and even obsessions with the subject. I worked for two years in a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric clinic many years ago and we occasionally had this sort of issue presenting itself.

Tell him "yes, and it's because you've been such a bad boy."

"Yes and I want the yard tidy, your room spotless or you will go to hell , and you don't need any spending money you won't have time to spend it ."
When nothing happens on Saturday tell him never to forget that ALL religious people are liars . (I'd make a great parent wouldn't I ? )

Explain to him that even if the world does end as there are billions and billions of them it doesnt really matter too much to the universe

Rum, he'll be 16 this June 29 (that's if the world don't end this Sat.

He's a very outgoing, social kid, has a girlfriend, likes sports and he still kisses me good night.
I told him "but, but, Lexy's recital is on Sunday,
no way in hell I'm missing that!!!!!

How heavy is the fundie christian culture where you and your son are, are kiki? If it's thick with all the typical fundy fear and guilt rapture shite, and some of your son's peers (not necessarily his close friends, but general talk among his contemporaries) are deeply involved I can see how it might fuck with his mind as well.

I'm all for the publicity this latest round of apocalyptic prediction is getting. I honestly hope there are no major news stories over the next few days, so there's nothing to drown out the coverage it gets. The more people around the world hear about it and spend even a few seconds wondering if there's anything to it, the greater the cognitive dissonance there will be when nothing happens. Media events like this are fantastic for us nonbelievers.
Anyway Kiki, it sounds like you handled your son just fine.

No longer. And I'm not quite sure why you are surprised.Gawd wrote:Holy cow! You work with children??????Rum wrote:How old is he Kiki? I worked for many years as a child protection social worker, then in a Child and Family Guidance unit as a family therapist and then after a break moved into the education side. Sadly if you want 'promotion' and to get up the greasy pole you have to leave direct working behind in my profession. You become the faceless, though highly paid, bureaucrat people take so much ignorant pleasure in deriding.

Yea, we're in bible belt south, so he probably hears it from friends at school, but none of us in the house ever talk about religion in any serious way. Sometimes to make fun, as my husband calls them "chicken eat'n prechers" cuzzz all they do is babble all Sunday morning only to pig out on fried chicken as if they haven't eaten for 10 yrs.charlou wrote:How heavy is the fundie christian culture where you and your son are, are kiki? Peer and social culture outside the family is pretty strong at his age. Is he okay?kiki5711 wrote:Yea, we're in bible belt south, so he probably hears it from friends at school, but none of us in the house ever talk about religion in any serious way. Re: My son asked me............
For some reason such irrational 'obsessions' about things like the end of the world, wars and so on tend to get a hold at the age of 9 or 10 for some reason if they are going to. Looks like your son has a healthy handle on it though!kiki5711 wrote:he he funny ya'll

Re: My son asked me............
He seemed ok when I dropped him off at school. I'm helping him do a book project this weekend so we'll be busy with that plus Lexy's recital is on Sunday and we're all going to that, so,,,,, no time to think about that shit.
