Is this kind of oppressive victimisation and persecution considered a valid reason to allow asylum status in any other countries?
I would suppose so.
GFL, thank you for your work on this ... And yes, a very warm hug of care and support to you, good man. xxx
I've really done nothing other than being the bearer of bad news and posting links, I'm afraid. If anybody deserves thanks it is Meeky and Julietooo for spreading awareness of this heinous piece of legislation and everybody whose gotten off their arses to mobilize those petitions. As far as the hug goes :hugs:

I don't know what it will be next that will get me down, FGM somewhere, criminalizing abortion somewhere else, people blowing each other up for belonging to the "wrong" group... :(

Situation Update - it won't see the light of day this parliamentary session. It may still be able to rear its ugly head in future parliaments, however.

It makes me wonder if they really simply adjourned before the bill or if this was a planned move on part of the bill makers. They could be doing this to drive homosexuals out of Uganda without an intent to really pass the bill(which I know has been suggested elsewhere). Either way I am becoming more and more dubious of my original notion that the majority or people are kind.
I can live with doubt, and uncertainty, and not knowing. I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. [...] I don’t feel frightened by not knowing things, by being lost in a mysterious universe without having any purpose, which is the way it really is, as far as I can tell, possibly. It doesn’t frighten me. - Richard Feynman

Rob: if one has the resources to buy up or otherwise dominate most of a region's media / ways of spreading "information", and uses those resources to tout propaganda with relentless repetition, people tend to eventually get manipulated. And religious propaganda is especially effective.

You know that quote: "without religion... but to get good people to do bad things, you need religion."

And religion has been used to the hilt in Uganda regarding homosexuality :-(
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J
