I answered the question so nobody else would have to check it. Only polite since I would have been in the position of having to say "Yeah, I found that a few hours ago" after somebody else went looking.JimC wrote:It has begun...Gawdzilla wrote:It's flagged in Google Earth.Gawdzilla wrote:The 19" TV is actually his best choice over there, they're a bit shy of HD and digital signals. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics ... oto/37510/President Obama's decision to withhold the visual evidence of Osama bin Laden's death has created a fundamental disagreement between the White House and one of the largest journalism organizations in the world. "This information is important for the historical record," said Michael Oreskes, senior managing editor at The Associated Press. "That's our view."
I tend to agree. There is no reason to keep these photos secret. The only thing that has been advanced is that the photos will enrage the Muslim world. However, on the other hand we are always told that very few Muslims back Osama and he wasn't a good Muslim. Osama just twisted Isslam for his own nefarious purposes. So who are we worried about enraging? The ones that already are enraged?

Meh, "the news if just the first draft of history". What Oreskes is saying is "we want to get some blood on and guts on the websites so we can get more hits."Coito ergo sum wrote:http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics ... oto/37510/President Obama's decision to withhold the visual evidence of Osama bin Laden's death has created a fundamental disagreement between the White House and one of the largest journalism organizations in the world. The first draft of history is important. It's news. We have a free press, and information ought to be generally free.Gawdzilla wrote:Meh, "the news if just the first draft of history". This isn't top secret spy methods and plans, or the identity of covert operatives. It's a picture of a guy we already know is dead. Frankly, it sets a piss poor precedent. Obama won't be the President forever, and the next Republican will be able to keep just about anything secret. He can just say, "this might piss off some people."

We see more blood and guts on the evening news every day. And, we had to watch our countrymen jump out of a burning building 10 years ago.Gawdzilla wrote:I"m still good with the blood and guts thing.Coito ergo sum wrote:The first draft of history is important. The last thing I want the government doing is deciding what is too yucky for me to see. If it bears a legitimate, substantial national security interest, then fine. When there is no more interest, release the information no matter what it is. The fact that some people think it's irrelevant or distasteful should not be a factor.
Re: Osama bin Laden: Dead
I agree with zilla about Oreskes, though - he doesn't give a shit about the historical record, he just wants his ratings going up.Coito ergo sum wrote:
