Dang! Oh well. Thanks anyway, and pass my congratulations to anyone at spook central who might have had a part in the victory.

I heard on the news this morning that apparently Osama was unarmed when he was shot.

So -

We have the United States invading a foreign country without notice or permission to assassinate someone, and instead of taking the unarmed person into custody, he was summarily executed. Some have stated that enhanced interrogation techniques helped lead to the bin Laden hideout. Eric Holder is "not sure."
Attorney General Eric Holder was asked if the intelligence that lead to the operation was derived from any enhanced interrogation techniques. "There was a mosaic of sources," he said.

Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., asked the attorney general whether the public could rest assured that the intelligence did not involve enhanced techniques.

"I do not know," Holder testified.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/osama-bi ... d=13518686 (based on my years of listening to bureaucrat bullshit, the term "mosaic of sources" probably means that yes, enhanced techniques were used, and the "I don't know" means that Holder can later assert the lack of clarity as to what is and is not an "enhanced interrogation technique") http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/osama-bi ... d=13518686

I'm not saying I'm opposed to that, of course.

His wife got in the way .. and was shot in the leg. Then he was shot in the head. Twice.

My impression (not just from this example) is that it doesn't matter how much 'planning' goes into setting this kind of thing into motion on the one side, the responses of the other side will always render 'planning' obsolete at the point of contact.

Was it an unlawful killing, though?

U.S. forces enter another country without permission or even prior notice, guns-a-blazin', and kill an unarmed man, along with several other civilians.

Wasn't he entitled to due process and a trial?

W. Bush declines invite to appear at Ground Zero to celebrate capture of bin Laden.
One source suggested to Politico that Bush wanted to "give Obama his moment."
Bush "appreciated" the invite and will "celebrate" the milestone of Osama bin Laden's death,
It's a pretty classy move.

Classy, or chicken shit? :hehe:

You don't think there are some people out there who might give him grief for not having accomplished what Obama did?

That's normal practice, isn't it?

Wasn't Obama supposed to bring "change" from the "normal practice?" I stand corrected.

...let me turn on the television and see what the status is on all those protests and demonstrations by the anti-war groups...Cindy Sheehan must be camped outside his house, and Code Pink must be raiding his press conferences and speeches....I mean, assassinating unarmed wanted criminals living peacefully in foreign lands...ignoring extradition treaties...ignoring domestic sovereignty of another country...invading their territory, destroying their property, and killing their citizens...not to mention invading another country (Libya) when there was no imminent threat to the United States....that sounds pretty nasty.... 'cept when yous one of da good guys, I s'pose... :fall:

I really don't care about the definition of "resistance". I doubt Bin Laden had been sitting in a chair twiddling his thumbs while the SEALs were helicoptering in and taking down other people in his compound before arriving at his room. So I don't care about the details of whether he was holding a gun or not. If the guy/s who finally shot saw reason to fire, then I won't question it.

He's passing up a great opportunity. Why would he be scared?

Some folks might give him grief, but those idiots are doing it anyway. He's not saving himself from that by not appearing with Obama at Ground Zero.
