If you don't know maybe you should pay attention to things outside of hedonistic pursuits of art-galleries and wine parties? In the real world there's a fiscal collapse brewing like never seen before....in all human history. Bin Laden does not matter - yesterday he had a minor part to play in the smashing of a few windows....now all the windows are being smashed from the inside.

I learned of it only at 6:00 AM EST... probably had been on the news earlier, but I slept late.Ian wrote:Happy happy joy joy...
Hundreds spontaneously gathered around the White House. Heard them singing the Star Spangled Banner earlier. Not bad for after 11pm on a Sunday night.

With Panetta slated to take DoD, you had to wonder who was slated to replace him, and that kind of move is one you prepare in advance, before announcing the otherAshtonBlack wrote:Interesting choice. Fascinating timing!Crumple wrote:
As an aside, I met Patraeus when he visited a US Air Force base, in Iraq, I was working at. Very VERY astute man. (By met, I actually mean I was at a massive 'briefing' he was giving.)

I thought the same thing! Is that something that's often done by muslims? I mean tossing the dead at sea?Crumple wrote:Buried him at sea...isn't that a tad suspicious? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and I think we'll ponder this one a good while now?
But even if they showed OBL's face in a coffin, it wouldn't matter, he looks like a thousand other rag heads. It has been a question to me for a long time, what is taking so long to catch him anyway.
On the other hand, his death just represents a bigger picture, he's not in power nor was he ever in power alone.

No DNA testing. They could have burnt him but then there'd be people asking for DNA evidence from the ashes using advanced techniques.kiki5711 wrote:I thought the same thing! Psychological victories are important in "non-conventional" warfare. Ten years in hiding while his 'case' was being 'appealed', then execution. Not enough, really.

In Islam burial at sea is only permitted if the death occured at sea as it is impossible to verify if the body rests on the sea bed with their toes pointed toward Mecca. Did he die at sea?

Huckabee announces Bin Laden fate. Devil given special grant to build new Bin Laden tortute compound. The materials are rated to last half an eternity.
Continuing, Huckabee said, “It has taken a long time for this monster to be brought to justice. Welcome to hell, bin Laden. Let us all hope that his demise will serve notice to Islamic radicals the world over that the United States will be relentless is tracking down and terminating those who would inflict terror, mayhem and death on any of our citizens.”

Overweening pride can occur via religious mania, as well as secular power...
I used to teach a senior poetry class. They were always a little weirded out that a physics teacher liked poetry...
