I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

I'm a completionist, but there's gotta be some kind of reward or incentive. The trophies you get in games like this seem to be very random, and of no practical value. When a little message pops up in the game that says you've-got-this-or-that trophy, my response is usually, "Okay, whatever. Who gives a shit?"The Curious Squid wrote:They appeal to the OCD in me, I can't stand to see a game with less than 100% written beside it and they usually involve playing the game differently than normal and exploring the entire thing more than you would usually as well as an incentive to try the game on the hardest settings in most cases. I'm a 60%-tionist. I have about 60% of the gamer points for any given game.

Re: What are you playing now?
I started Red Dead Redemption last night but so far it doesn't really grab me, and I'm annoyed already. First, the camera is too responsive. In GTA IV, it was too sluggish, and that annoyed me. Here, it's too quick. Also, the graphics are beautiful (except for the rendering of the characters' hair, WTF
), but there's too much definition and detail, and not enough contrast. Same problem I had with GTA IV. I actually like the slightly more cartoony look of the older games. Here, I can't make anything out. It's fucking sensory overload. In one of the first missions, for instance, I was tasked with killing some wolves that were attacking the livestock. This is what I was told, at least. But when I got to the area in which I'm meant to shoot these wolves, my reaction was, "Wolves? Okay, if you say so. Where the fuck are they? I can't see a goddamn thing." And I have a new TV, and a high def cable from the game console to the TV so everything is crystal clear, and the TV is only two feet away from my face. And yet I can't see shit.
And then I had to race this woman on horseback around her property. Sounds fun, right? Except I couldn't tell where the path was I was supposed to take. Again, there's too much detail in the graphics and not enough contrast.
Oh, and early on, I wanted to ride around and explore. But I kept getting this "Game Over, Mission Failed" shit. That made me mad. Yes, I knew I was supposed to meet so-and-so at a certain location. Who gives a shit? Can't I look around first?!
I also don't really give a shit about the characters. The main character I'm playing as, for instance, looks kind of stupid.

Personally, I love the game, but I'll comment on one thing only - regarding racing, try looking at the map in the bottom corner. You should see yellow circles showing which points you're supposed to be aiming for on the pathtattuchu wrote:I started Red Dead Redemption last night but so far it doesn't really grab me, and I'm annoyed already. Don't worry. I hate nearly every game when I first start itMousy wrote: Personally, I love the game, but I'll comment on one thing only - regarding racing, try looking at the map in the bottom corner. You should see yellow circles showing which points you're supposed to be aiming for on the path

I'll give this one a proper chance of course.
Oh, and I know there's a map. But I can't really look at the map and watch where I'm going at the same time. And even if I can, I still can't see the path before me properly. It could be my vision. My eyes are a little fucked up and I can't focus properly. These hyper-defined ultra-detailed visuals do me head in

That's why I'm gonna take Squid's advice and get a PSN card so I can play Spyro the Dragon

Re: What are you playing now?
Tattuchu, do you wear glasses when you're gaming?
I really liked RDR, and I never experienced the same issues regarding the visuals. I also played on a new TV, hi-def, and I can make out the paths and wolves etc just fine.
For those who found it boring, the story really picks up as you get further into the game. It's just a slow start. I also found FFXIII boring at first. Actually, I still do, since it's Corridor Fantasy 13, but if I start a story I like to know where it goes.
As for hyper-detail, real life is pretty bad for that. But I don't freak out in real life because you become numb to it and only notice the extreme detail if you're looking for it. Same happens for me in games. In RDR, detailed vegetation just becomes general background foliage until I feel the need to stare at it. Also, I do consider RDR "cartoony" compared to some games I play.

Re: What are you playing now?
Tat, when I get my copy back off of my mate do you want to join my posse? I know you said you don't like playing online normally but the multiplayer on this isn't all versus, there's co-op too, we can ride our horses into a gang's stronghold and lay down the law on those motherfuckers!

Maybe it's just me, then. The more cartoony earlier games were so much easier on my eyes.Peter Harrison wrote:Tattuchu, do you wear glasses when you're gaming?

I don't wear glasses. I had lasik surgery so don't need lenses anymore. The problem is that I have one slightly lazy eye, so I can't focus properly. Like, 3D movies, for instance? I can't see the 3D. Those weird pictures where if you look at them a certain way, you see some image? I can never see the image

p.s. Corridor Fantasy 13
