Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Yep. I'm sure that if I had simply listened to them expound on the dialectic with my full attention I would have seen the errors built into the capitalistic system and joined my fraternal brothers and sisters in resisting the power of the almighty dollar. Or something like that anyway.Jörmungandr wrote:Were they innocent baby-faced flower-bearing envoys of communism?Gawdzilla wrote: I've killed a lot of people and I never lost any sleep about it. It was an appalling incident, and an inditement not only on the soldiers, but their chain of command. Heads should roll.JOZeldenrust wrote:So those individuals are looking at life in prison? Sounds like those civilized countries don't take kindly to a bunch of their soldiers going on a killing spree, and those countries are apparently willing to take action against their own soldiers if they do.sandinista wrote:yah, nothing wrong with that, it's war, kill, rape, torture anyone you want. What the fuck are you talking about? The individual soldiers may be barbarians in this case, but it seems to me like the US government is acting decidedly civilized in this matter. Well, apart from the possibility that these guys could get the death penalty. I don't think that's very civilized.
Having said that, the US military is obviously treating this as a crime (as they should); life imprisonment would be a sensible option.
And there must be a high-level inquiry about how the hell a rogue team could act in this way. Pathetic command and control, it would seem...

I blame Rumsfeld.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
