Are all things that aren't special to your ears "shit?" I mean, lots of groups that aren't special are at least listenable and o.k., rather than "shit!"
Nah, I wouldn't go along with the shit notion... that's clearly just hyperbole... but the rest of what he says is spot on as far as I'm concerned.

What can I say? I'm a picky listener and I don't spend too much time trying to figure out a fair wording of what exactly it is that makes me go "meh" ;P

you, my friend, have THE worst taste in music. Bruce is a fucking genius, and one of the best live performers on the planet. What do you like so I can shit all over it.
Bruce is not a fucking genius. He really, really, really, REALLY isn't a fucking genius.

Proof?

The E Street band did more interesting and worthy work with Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf than with Springsteen. :funny:

The E Street band didn't work with Jim Steinman. Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg played on the album "Bat Out of Hell,' and Steinmen called Springsteen's work an "inspiration" for Bat Out of Hell, though.

The worst of it is not that he is actually bad, but that he is massively overrated. His fans hold him up alongside Dylan as a songwriter. Which is bollocks - he's simply not in that league. He's just very very average.

So, big deal. They were picked because they're awesome. And, of course, like their contributions to the E Street Band, Weinberg and Bittan helped make one of the most popular records of all time. :tea:

I'm not sure who is claiming Springsteen is a genius, but neither would I say he's very average. I think there's quite a bit of substance to his work.
Springsteen is one of those artists who I have a lot of respect for, while not really finding his work to my taste. Some of it I love, some of it makes me cringe, and most of it I'm indifferent to. But I do think he's a talented fellow. Also, he's one of the few pop artists who actually sing about something.

Dylan, on the other hand. Now there is an example of someone who is, to me, inexplicably elevated to godhood. His lyrics are meaningful, yes. But songs are supposed to sound good, aren't they? I mean, otherwise, why sing them at all? Just write poetry instead.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Can't agree with you more Dev. I saw him in concert once, and I was bored stiff, his band is more interesting than he is. His music and lyrics are uninteresting too.

He's also an abusive asshole, and treats his roadies, personal assistants and chefs like crap.

I agree with all of that, and it amazes me all the more that they would waste their valuable time and unquestioned talent with a nonentity like Springsteen. He must have been quite a salesman.

 Springsteen is a much better songwriter than Dylan, I like Dylan, but if anyone is over rated its Bob, not Bruce. Phil Ochs is better than both though. Most importantly, Bruce continues to put out great albums, Dylan hasn't made anything listenable since the fucking 70's.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Whoa there now ... why do we have to judge/rate an artist by their recent/current work? The Zim is pushing 70, and has long since lost the creative spark, like many ageing artists have done. Thanks to smoking zillions of cigarettes, he can hardly even talk any more. But what of that? Very little that Springsteen has ever recorded comes within an asses' roar of Dylan's greatest work - and there is an awful lot of that. And without Dylan, Springsteen (and many other singer-songwriters) might never have made it in the first place.

All IMHO of course. :levi:
