I never saw the original. The new one is actually rated higher on IMdB so I'm guessing it's better. The violence I'm sure is more shocking in the new one.Millefleur wrote:I was going to ask if it was worth seeing, watched the old version the other day on my Dads recommendation and although it wasn't bad it didn't seem to fulfil the full potential of the story. The ending was a bit 'meh' too. Might give this one a go then.Animavore wrote:Saw True Grit in the cinema today. It was great. Wasn't really a typical Coen brother's film, though. Although it was laced through with humour and sporadic and unexpected violence. It just wasn't "quirky". Not that that mattered. It wasn't the type of film for that. The film was character driven. All the acting was great. There was a lot of attention to detail and it ticked along at a perfect pace never getting dull.
Well worth seeing. Top marks.
More good movies we've seen.

My brother said it was shit, which generally means it was excellent
The original seemed a bit 'soft' for lack of a better way to put it, a bit vanilla. The acting and language were pretty good besides Glen Campbell, I'm pretty sure they just dumped him in there for ratings as a popular singer, he couldn't act for shit.

Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Finally saw Inception on Monday night; I liked it, but I didn't walk away from it thinking "wow!" or "I can't believe it's over already!" or "I can't wait for the sequel!"
Who needs a signature anyway?

Going to be watching this later.

Just got back from seeing Paul. I was a bit meh about it, but was in the mood for a movie, some chocolate and a coke sort of thing. In the event it was great! Real entertainment - a smidgen on the light side. A road movie with two English 'beta males' and an alien. Great fun! See it if you want a couple of hours of real fun!

I love silence fiction. Charlie Chaplin was my favourite.

It looks bloody awful from the trailer, and a huge disappointment since Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were so incredibly awesome. Also I'm pissed off because I wanted my Percy alien story to get made into a film, and I envisioned Simon Pegg as the lead. Well that's never going to happen now, is it?Rum wrote:Just got back from seeing Paul. I was a bit meh about it, but was in the mood for a movie, some chocolate and a coke sort of thing. p.s. I'm sure I'll end up seeing this. It's not in theaters here for another month, though.

The trailer *is* dreadful. They should have changed it. The film is much much better than the trailer would suggest.
..and I am too late to change the spelly!

Oh, I should add that as a bonus there is a Christian fundamentalist and his daughter in the cast. The alien turns the daughter into an atheist by placing his hand on her head and transferring his whole experience from his mind to hers! The change in her is a real giggle!
Re: More good movies we've seen.
They said in an interview they couldn't take that whole de-conversion thing as far as they wanted because the producers weren't keen on it

I saw Winter's Bone, after Animavore recommended it a couple of weeks ago. It was really good. I loved the pace and atmosphere of it all... the uncle reminded me of FBM too.

Watched Undead or Alive: A Zombedy last night.
Funny as all fuck.
Trailer here.Elmer Winslow is a soldier on the run from the Union Army, and Luke Budd is a cowboy with a broken heart. When the two misfits rob the corrupt sheriff of an old west town, they have no idea that a plague of zombies is sweeping the country, or that Geronimo's sexy niece may be their only hope of survival.

I just watched Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais. I loved it! I laughed lots during the middle
and cried lots during the end

I watched Winter's Bone last night. I liked it very much. It wasn't what I expected. Actually I'm not sure what I expected. Whatever it was I expected, it wasn't what I saw. But I liked it anyhow.
