I would honestly, given the choice, listen to Bryan Adams. No trolling what-so-ever. I honestly do detest The Beatles that much. I don't know how they conned everyone, and I at least respect them for that, but considering their contemporary equivalent are McFly I'm amazed a boy band managed to get such kudos in a time full of such great music.

Typical arrogant opinion of one in the majority. You can't believe that someone can honestly dislike a band which most people agree are great putting me into a serious minority and you try to claim I'm trolling or just wave it off by saying I know nothing about music when I probably listen to more genres of music than most people in here.

p.s. I guess some people take issue with The Beatles' immense popularity and critical acclaim, and don't think it's deserved. I can understand this. Anything that's hugely popular, I'm automatically suspicious of at the very least. I hated Elvis Presley with a passion growing up, for instance, fucking despised him. He sounded hopelessly old-fashioned to me, couldn't understand what the big deal was. And that fact that everyone talked about him as if he were some sort of god made me hate him all the more.
But as far as popularity or critical acclaim or anything else regarding The Beatles, I honestly don't give a flying fuck. I couldn't care less. I love The Beatles because I think they made great music. The greatest music? Maybe not. So what? Their music spoke to me. It still does. That's all I care about.

I too suffer from some degree of popular-a-phobia, but in the end all that matters is if an act has got it or not.

If you're insinuating that a band still being recognised in the future bears any relation to how good they are it's probably worth pointing out that Take That are almost 21 years old.
It probably is a bit harsh to call The Beatles "crap", though. I do like a small number of their songs. Tiny, tiny number. Although these songs tend to have involvement from other people (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, made awesome by Clapton more than anything else, Eleanor Rigby, played by a string octet arranged by George Martin).

Only for the white middle classes. There were amazing things happening in motown at the time too that everyone seems to conveniently forget when they start spouting about how great the beatles were

Azathoth seems to be on the same page as me. I did mention before in another thread my annoyance that black music is almost always left out of these discussions when people start talking about how influential this or that white band was from the 60s. There's an element of truth to say that these white boys were trying to emulate black artists. This goes back to Elvis.
